Accepted (same audience) and The Illusionist (does this have an audience, I have seen no actual advertising for this).

I think it'll do well for itself, but it won't be a breakaway hit, 25-30 million.

$20-$25M. A massive drop-off the next weekend. I can't see this having making tons of money. Besides internet fans who somehow see this as the ultimate movie, I can't see many people going to see this movie.

With its current opening date, I say 24 million. Had it opened a month ago, I think the number would have been higher, like maybe 34 million.

Also a new Hilary Duff movie called Material Girls opens next week...and I have seen absolutely no promotion for it whatsoever.

I am guessing Snakes will make $15 million or less opening weekend. The only people who seem interested in Snakes are the Internet crowd. Everyone else looks at this movie as complete crap. Serenity had a ton of Internet hype too and it only opened around $10 million.

Is this for opening weekend or overall?

My prediction for opening weekend: $12 million

apples and oranges. Serenity opened even smaller than Anaconda or Anaconda 2. Serenity was based off a canceled show. Snakes on a plane is pretty straight forward and from all points of view, it's not like it's taking itself seriously. Add in that Sam Jackson has name appeal. Unlike any of the cast members of Serenity.

At the very least it should get 16-22 million easy.

I'll just go $20 million. Hell that freaking Step Up earned more than that, so I'm probably low. But the movie does look pretty stupid.

The way everyone's been blowing their load for SoaP the last few months, like it's the Second Coming of Christ, I'm stunned by these low predictions. I thought surely everyone would put it at the level of a new Adam Sandler film, $40-$50 million easy. Personally, I wouldn't pay $0.40-$0.50 and hope the lower-than-I-expected figures quoted above are closer to the reality. Just talking seriously about this movie embarrasses me...

The hype for Snakes on a Plane has almost been a bit of a joke in and of itself, I'd honestly be impressed if it cracked $20m. As for me, I'll be there 10:00 PM Thursday night.

I've taken most of the comments (on this forum at least) to be purely sarcastic. I don't think many here actually expect this to be a hit or are waiting impatiently to be first in line.

Quite frankly, if I were to see anyone predict 50-60 million, I would assume it's sarcastic as well.

But for some reason (that I haven't figured out yet) this movie seems to be gaining legions of fans online, I'm sure many of that group will be lining up the first day to see it.

But perhaps I'm just giving my DVDTalk brethren the benefit of the doubt
