The bus goes downtown, and there are stops on the strip, but the last time, it was such a long wait, we walked, (do not walk in the heat)

I did the Duece once...it was decent for being cheap, but a cab is much quicker. I didn't really care, but if you are traveling with a few people, just get a cab.

just curious ... what have you got against taking the cab? to get to downtown, it's a much more pleasant ride than the bus and it's not that expensive.

i dont. i just already knew the cab was an option and if i just asked "best way to get downtown?" everyone would say "take a cab...duh". i was just seeing what OTHER options there were so when i decide to go downtown i know all the different ways.
ive been to vegas many times but never downtown.
(btw how much would a cab ride cost from the strip to downtown?)

I just got back from Vegas last week. We went downtown from the strip (At the Fashion Mall which is next to Treasure Island) via cab on a Friday night and it cost only 12 bucks. We took the Deuce back on the strip which is 1.75.
I guess it depends where you are on the strip, what kind of traffic is going on, and the type of driver you have. I say it will cost anywhere from 10 bucks to 20ish although that 20 number is a bit high.

Off topic - but has anyone figure out a way around the horrendous cab line at the airport? I kept thinking it made sense to go where the drop offs are and just grab a cab there when someone else gets out rather than wait in the ridiculously annoying line. But then I wasn't sure if there were cab nazis down there that prevented you from doing that.

You can't do that. Cabs bolt after they drop people off. I think they can get fined for picking up fares in the drop off zone.

im sure if that was the case, eveyrone would do it and it would be chaotic.

Oh, I get it. That's because you're better than everybody else and don't need to wait your turn, right?
As someone who has to travel a bit for business, people who take cabs from me piss me off. Once they finish drop off, they go to the end of the qeue for pickup. Deal with it.
Order a car service if you want to avoid the wait.

Best way to avoid the cab line is to round up people at the end of the cab line who are staying at the same hotel as you and all share a towncar or limo together.

Have you actually done that? I'm not quite that outgoing as to start chatting with people to find out where they're staying.

I'm usually shitfaced by the time I land at the airport, so my social lubrication is already in place. I've shared cabs and cars with people before just by announcing that I'm staying at a certain hotel and that I'm looking for people to share a towncar/limo with so we can all bypass the 30 minute line.

Not always the best way to go. Doing that last time when we all met up at the airport (Me, Josh, and all my work friends) it cost me about $60.
I offered to pay since it was my idea.

It's the best way to go as long as everyone knows the pricing up front. Of course it's going to cost $50-60 for a towncar/limo. But if you get 5-7 people, it's only about $10 a person.
That's how we always do it when we do our March Madness trip. Last thing we want to do is stand in a fucking line for 20-30 minutes as soon as we get off the plane. Although Josh and I certainly didn't mind since we had a fifth of jack cracked open and going down the hatch.
