Best Buy: My Name is Earl, $5 Coupon (found in Prison Break DVD set)

I just returned from Best Buy, after price-matching Prison Break. Included in the set was a Manufacturer's Coupon that is good for $5 off the DVD set of My Name is Earl. The coupon, however, is only good at Best Buy stores. The coupon expires October 3rd, 2006.

Damn, now I wish I got Prison Break at Best Buy rather then Target. I wanted the bonus disc from Target more then Best Buy.

There is a problem here.

I'm anal, I wanted a complete set. I went to both Best Buy and Target for their exclusive discs (Prison Break). I'd sell the extra copy on Ebay. I'd get my money back, mostly.

Unless I got a mistake, glitch. The bonus disc from Target is exactly the same as Best Buy: the Mobisodes. I'm guessing the factory screwed up in putting the bonus DVDs. I'm going back to see if I can try again. If not, I want a refund, this was the only reason I bought it in the first place - false advertising.

Oh crap, you're right. After reading your post, I checked my set, and I got the "Mobisodes" bonus disc from Target as well. I wanted the wrap party crap more damn it, and spent the $1 more to get it. And yes, I'm also anal, but about money. I'll go to a different store for a $1 difference.

The word "anal" is being thrown around way to liberally in a thread about a prison TV show.

Back.

Spoke to the manager, was able to get a full refund. I'd like to try at another Target, but I need help.

Did anybody who bought the box set at Target get the correct bonus disc?

The Target where I bought and returned mine was in San Bernardino, Californina.

I'm all the way out in Flint, Michigan. I just checked my set from Target and I got the Mobisodes disc as well.

Here's the big question - did anyone buy it from Best Buy and get the bonus disc that was supposed to be with the Target set? If there was a coast to coast screw-up here, then it's quite possible the bonus discs got reversed.

Two weeks in a row that Target screws up one of their "bonus" discs. Keep it up and no dvd collector will bother shopping there anymore. Thanks for the heads up as now I'll go to Best Buy and at least get the bonus disc and some Reward Zone points to boot.

The Beavis & Butthead Volume 3 w/ bonus disc was not delivered (there have been a few rumored sightings, but nobody claims to actually have it yet).

Target gave me an 800 number to call to see if there was news of a replacement. I left the receipt out in the truck, so I'll post it tomorrow when I get to work.

Bonus discs and the like are just a way for stores to artificially create differentiation and thus increase profit margins. They are the Anti-Bargain and ought to be verboten in the bargains forum anyway. The more you focus on them, the more money you waste that could have been better spent on more movies. Just look at the japanese market for an example of what happens when these first run bonus tactics get out of hand.

I cast thee out, demons of wallet-sucking!

I got the Earl coupon as well. I don't plan on buying the first season of Earl so if anyone that didn't buy PB: S1 and wants the $5 off Best buy coupon just drop me a message I'd be more than happy to drop it in an envelope and mail it to you.

Jah-Wren Ryel, I look forward to the bonus discs. Take the Best Buy DVD for an example, the Mobisodes are not part of the box set; should be, but it's not. It expands on the series. Having the other disc would've been cool, more featurettes. It's a collector kind of thing.

What I would like to see is an option. Stores that offer bonus DVDs need to offer them also separately in the same amount as the ones bundled with titles. Lets say for five bucks or so, maybe less. This way people who bought the release at another store (for their exclusive) can visit a different store to pick up JUST the other bonus disc. And pretty much since you have them in your shop, they might impuse buy something, perhaps a sale you're running. Fairness.
