This is my first year playing fantasy football. I was at Hastings this past weekend and located the FF magazines, all 20+ of them. I was given a hint in what to look for...."Cheat Sheets", player rankings, and stats going back atleast 3 years.
What do you guys recommend?

In all honesty, they're all pretty much the same. As long as they have the "cheat sheets", a mock draft, individual player stats and rankings, you'd be good to go with either one. I buy two different ones just to have to read while i'm at work.
I have a Sporting News one and an Athlon one.

Yeah, if you need the magazine to prepare for the draft and strategize, dont bother. There are plenty of sites that are more up to date and helpful.

Really -- all the magazines are virtually the same and carry the same amount of -- to an extent -- worthlessness. The information is typically standard fare and is usually outdated by the time it hits the shelves. There is DEFINITLEY a poor ROI when you consider how much they cost vs. how much info they give.
The first thing to do is look at your scoring system -- this can have a dramatic effect on player rankings -- i.e. PPR, QB scoring vs. RB/WR, FLEX, starting requirements, bench spots, etc.
One of the best resources if you don't want to read up on all the daily happenings -- which is typically not wise due to injuries and depth charts -- is www.antsports.com. It is a site that a LOT of people use for mock drafts throughout the season and they store all that information. So, you can go to the site and view ADP -- average draft position -- of all the players you would pretty much ever need.
There is also www.sportingnews.com ( i think that is the site ) where you can do live mocks that only go 10 rounds. They move quick since there is only 1.5 minutes between picks. This lets you get a really good feel on the flow of a draft, where players are taken and where "runs" start.
Hope that helps.

Answer: none. They are published months in advance and woefully out of date. Do your research on the internet. I like fftoday.com, kffl.com, and footballguys.com.
edit: antsports.com is good for gauging where players get picked. I really like their average draft position tracker.

I really like ProFootball Weekly. Their website is good too. I like the "way we hear it" and "Whispers" sections
Even though the Fantasy edition of their mag is put out in July, I aways grab a copy and take it with me on draft day. It's nice having all of last years stats handy incase you're debating in the late rounds of who to take.

I agree. I get cheat sheets and updated rankings online, but I like to have a magazine along for schedules, stats, and other stuff. I usually use FF Index but have used PFW as well.
