how is the Xbox as a dvd player?

Is it much better than the PS2? Does it support progressive scan and DTS tracks? I'm just wondering if it's serviceable to use until I get a blu ray player in a few months.

1) xbox does not do progressive scan and DD only I believe plus requires a DVD Playback kit.
2) 360 does do progressive scan and DD/DTS.
3) only the new slim PS2's will do progressive scan.

Not true on this one.
There's a 2nd generation "thick" PS2 that is progressive scan compatible.

Sucks you have to buy a remote when with the ps 2 you could use the controller. Blu-ray I hope you prepared to waste your money on the next betamax.

both my chipped xboxs are great DVDs players at 720p to boot. They are slightly loud, but they work great. I never have used them unchipped, but I know some who still do and like them

I think you might need to get your hearing checked my friend. Granted its louder than your average DVD player but not that loud... Also I agree with the statement about Blu-Ray being a waste of money....

I agree, XBox isn't that loud. I've never thought it was that big of a deal. The 360, however.......whoa.

Could depend on your room size though.

I've always considered the Xbox a loud player (certainly louder than a regular dvd player, or PS2, for that matter), but it works pretty well with scratched or dirty discs. Ocassionaly I'll rent a movie that is a little too worn for my stand-alone player, but the Xbox will play it without hiccup.
