For 5 Kino films it is. Maybe their taking a cue from Warner Bros since WB Noir sets are so well priced. Kino has had some poor transfers in the past though. Anybody able to comment on how these films look?

well, that is one concern of mine. Go to DVDBeaver for a really tough critical review of these tranfers. That is why I haven't bought them yet -$30 list is insane for each of these without restoration. But for about $7 a pop, well- that's about the price of a disc from Alpha!

I was cosidering some of these titles in the DDD Kino sale. Glad I waited. Wish Scralet Street was in this set. I'am tempted to get it at DDD now for 12.48 but I guess I will wait for the next set and see if its in there and in a thinpak.

I really want to see Sudden Fear in this set and one other, but how is the quality of transfers, etc. Kino isn't particularily known for the best handling of movies. Any idea if this is already on sale as part of DDD Kino sale?

Nope, not part of the curent DDD Kino sale. In the sale the prices are 14.98 per title 1/2 off. Box set = 7.00 per title. I couldnt find Sudden Fear on dvd at DDD. They did have a poster though.

I'll be patient and get it later, perhaps at the DDD December sale. Plus I already have Hangmen also Die so I'll probably sell that off sometime.

Let's hope this signals the start of some rethinking on prices by Kino.

As nice as that would be, it seems unlikely. Kino is a small company that finds passable (or even "restored" in the case of Metropolis and Dr. Mabuse Der Spieler) copies of fairly obscure films and re-releases them in attractive packaging and sometimes with extras...I can't imagine they make a lot of money doing this. As far as the Noir set goes, I ordered it from DDD (pre-ordered it, actually), and didn't find the price all that unreasonable. $7 each is only a little more than Alpha Videos, and I have yet to get a bad DVD from Kino...yeah, sometimes the image quality isn't as good as I'd like, but that the films are even available at all is enough for me. Thanks to companies like Kino, I'm putting together a pretty good collection!

Yaeh, Kino isn't really a bad company. Pretty good to decent, but I guess us DVDTalkers/CAGgers have been spoiled by companies like Criterion

I would have liked to have seen and bought this during the ongoing DDD 50%-off Kino too, but I finally figured out WHY it's not included: DDD is saying that the release date is not until 09/12/06 (consistent with Amazon's stated release date).

Dude, it's not what you make it's what you keep.

And yes there will be sales later.

The name of this forum is DVD bargains not DVD Impulse Purchases.

So much for my feeble attempt at humor.

back to the topic, the google $10 off $20 is still working at CD Universe (see related thread). They have the Kino set for $35.+ $5 shipping (ugh) = $40 -$10=$ $30.

Or about $6 a film...

DDD dropped the price of this 5 disc box set from $34.97 down to $33.22 after the kino sale ended (free shipping of course) with a release date of sept 12.
