Sci Fi's "Who Wants To Be A Superhero?"

I couldn't find a thread on this...you mean I'm the only one who sat through this train wreck last night? But much like a train wreck, it was hard to look away.

I wouldn't go so far to call it a "train wreck". Seriously cheesy fun is what I thought it was, sorta a reality Adam West Batman.

Speaking of West, I think Major Victory was channeling him. If that guy doesn't win, I'd be pretty shocked. (although it would be funny that the last two major Lee TV superheroes were strippers.)

I swear that's the first time I've ever seen Stan Lee angry.

Who Wants to be a Superhero?

Anyone catch this on Sci Fi yesterday? It's hosted by Stan Lee.

i saw the butt flab preview.. that was too much for me

one of my coworkers (with almost identical tastes as me) said he watched it and that it was the worst piece of crap show he has ever seen

now.. i dont always take other peoples opinions.. but that was strong enough that it convinced me that I didnt miss anything

I've been seeing the commercials and I just have to ask: why?

What is the possible point of this show? Do they end up in a comic book or something? Yeah, that book's gonna fly off the shelves.

Of course it's not going to be quality, haha. But it's also funny to see these custom made costumes and characters that people have come up with.

sometimes over the top is funny
but i heard its so far over the top that it skips right past anything that can be seen as funny, and just goes to unwatchable

Stan Lee has so much more potential than to give his time to this crap. I don't even know what to think of him now.

I don't watch "reality shows" - assuming this fits into that catagory - but this was so bad I was laughing out loud. How long is this gonna run? I'm thinkin' a 2-hour special would've been enough.

I thought his Striperella was a decent show. I mean, it certainly wasn't on par with X Men or Spider Man, but still showed the man could have some good fun.

The first episode was not what I expected. They only spent like 15 seconds on the auditions, when all of the previews seemed to indicate that would be the focus.

I just managed to catch this, after all the "glowing" reviews found here For what it was, it was ok. I don't get how your expectations could be too high with the premise. I also wish there were more auditions. You'd have to think seing some of the characters that weren't good enough to make the cut would be worth more time. Major Victory is the man. I loved his run during the contest, and all the stops and little poses along the way (even managing to acknowledge some pigeons with a finger point). Also, being a former male stripper trying to make good in the world, I think he has the best backstory. For the women ... well, we'll see how much Lee and the producers prefer hotness vs gameplay with how long Fat Momma sticks around. Despite blowing the challenge, I think Monkey Girl will go furthest. Her character has a theme (despite being cute, what are Creature and Lemura supposed to be?). She has a signature cry and a good costume. I like that she stuck with her theme climbing into the tree to change, despite there certainly being easier options.

I didn't get Stan Lee's problem with the muscle gun guy (forgetting the name) about the killing issue. Maybe in the Silver Age and kids tv shows, but has Stan Lee been reading many comics these days? Popular Marvel characters like Wolverine and The Punisher must have body counts in the thousands.

So, I missed the end of this. Who was the second cut and what was the reasoning for it?

Nitro G was the second to go (the short kid in black with green stripes).

The final challenge was to change into your costume out of view and race to a certain point. The real challenge was to stop and help a little girl find her mom. Not only did Nitro G not stop to help the girl (in fact about half the group didn't), he did nothing to conceal his quick-change.

Just watched the replay. Not too bad, kinda silly. I agree with the above post about Punisher and Wolverine, and plenty of other Marvel Characters. Even Spider-man broke Gwen's neck

But I'm sure ill keep watching. Major Victory is awesome, and Iron Enforcer is cool too, looking like a scary 90's big gun character.

Yeah Id say so, but then again ive always considered Stan somewhat of a hack. I mean he's even stated a lot of stuff in stories he was just making up on the fly. Hulk needs powers, radiation!, Fantastic Four, radiation, Spider-man, radiation! And so on and so forth. But thats a rant for another day.

The hilarious thing about Iron Enforcer is that when he's supposed to be walking around in his civilian clothes, he's still carrying this HUMONGOUS gun.

It's a way of him promoting Marvel...remember, the winner of this thing gets their own comic.
