Might go in the reviews, but I most certainly say it is worth the blind buy. Saw it in the theater twice, will buy the lenticular from Target and the set from Best Buy. Well worth it. Remember, its not a huge action film, but does have a few action scenes. Very good movie.

I voted for both simply because the poll let me.

My real answer is: yes. My favorite of '06 (so far).

Me too since I haven't seen it yet. It was the only way I could express my opinion.

I'm going to rent it first.

Yes, 100%, especially if you loved either the book or movie(s) of George Orwell's 1984.

Please do NOT blind buy this, rent it first...I'm just as much of an action movie/film aficionado as the rest of the people here but this film may not be what you expect. The studio's marketing strategy proved successful; however, many people didn't receive what was promised from the ads. I left the theater feeling rather empty, impartial and forgot about it shortly thereafter.

It is not for everyone. Trust me on this.

I would say don't go in expecting a balls out action flick. That's not what it is at all. As others said, 1984 is a good comparison. It's a satire about a futuristic police state, which seemed quite timely to me.

I know the author of the original V was very displeased with the movie. For one thing the 'very timely' plot was forced to fit and they didnt do a very good job.

A lot of the reasons I didnt like the film would solely fit in spoilers and Id hate to ruin it for you. Suffice it to say its hugely overrated.

I dunno. I personally wouldn't recommend it as a blind buy. There was one major problem I had with the movie, and I don't understand some of the changes they made from the comic book to the film. They just didn't seem necessary, and as such, the relationship between Evey and V just wasn't convincing enough for me (something I feel is/should be fundamental to the story). However, almost every review I've seen of the movie/DVD has been positive, so I'm probably one of the few dissenters on this one. I don't regret seeing it, but it's also not something I need to buy at this point. I should probably give it another chance sometime.

To be fair, Alan Moore hates any movie adaptation of any comic. Certainly, that's understandable considering that he's been burned a few times already (LXG, anyone?), but he has a pretty strong distaste for all things Hollywood (aside from the royalty checks they pay him, naturally) that his opinions on the adaptation aren't exactly objective or rational.

I don't trust one's opinion if they dislike BTTF. Impossible!

Of course his opinion isnt objective--he created the characters! He hated the script that the warchowski brothers mashed together. He gets some money because of contractural obligations (he already sold the movie rights). He would make more money if he had played along and marketed the movie, so his objections arent solely financial.

I believe he liked the spiderman movies.

I wouldn't use Moore not liking it in deciding whether or not to reccomend it to anyone other than fans of the graphic novel.

Most people have never read it (and don't read comics in general) so they aren't going to give two shits if it's faithful to the source material. They're just going to care if it's a good movie or not.

I fit that bill, and thought it was excellent, but I understand why some don't care for it.

It's not even that I'm a purist or anything. I haven't personally read the comic book myself, but after discussing the main problem I had with the movie (the relationship between Evey and V) with a friend of mine who is an avid comic book reader, it seemed to make sense why I didn't feel satisfied. He explained to me some of the changes they made, and it just doesn't make sense to me why they were made at all. It's not as if it wouldn't have been feasible to stick to the original material. I'm actually a fan of most comic book movies, and I usually tease my friends for being so anal. I agree--If the movie stands on its own, then it shouldn't really matter to those who have never read the comic book/graphic novel/book. But I honestly felt that there was something missing from the film. Like I said... I should probably watch it again.

Oh, I think your viewpoint is perfectly reasonable to bring up, as it's a gripe specific to the movie. If you don't buy that relationship, that's a fault of the movie and should be mentioned.

I just don't like simply mentioning that it deviates a lot from the source material, as many movies can change a lot and be great. I just like to see movies judged on their own merits, and not penalized for changing the source material.

If the changes hurt the story, and lessen the movie, then just mention those flaws (like you did).

I think a lot of the storytelling was heavy handed and spoonfed to the viewer. And I doubt it was because it was mocking a propaganda piece.
