Amazing Stories Season 1: $19.99 at Virgin MegaStore (NYC, maybe others)
There were at least 30 copies at the Union Square store this afternoon, all marked and ringing up at $19.99. Virgin MegaStore isn't exactly known for great deals, so this may be a pricing error. I don't know if it's a chainwide price or just valid at this one location.

tried the one at Times Square first -- the copies there had no sale stickers on them, so i assumed it to be the full retail of $49.95. took the subway down to Union Square, and their copies had the $19.95 sale stickers on them. it ran up automatically as the sale price (the clerk didn't have to make any manual adjustment), so i'm not sure if their system price is in synch with the other store. great deal, thanks for the heads up, illennium!

Damn. Well i just bought mine from best buy for 39.99 but didn't open it yet. I live in San Francisco as well so I'll get the 19.99 price and get a refund. Hopefully the deal will still go through tomorrow.

I think this is a fluke... I just went to VMS at Union Sq and picked up a copy, it ran up as $49.99 (no sale sticker)! So, i told the cashier that the sticker says it's $19.99. She told me to get the copy with the sticker and i believe she manually overriden the price.
I said something like "what's the difference, with or w/o the sale sticker, they should be the same price." The cashier said "well, w/o the sticker, you can claim it's $5 for i care."
Man, that was dumb, so if i slap on a $1 sticker, will i get it for $1?
This deal either is dead (i got the last copy with the sale sticker, unless they put out more?) or extremely YMMV. The reason i didn't check out with the sale sticker copy the first time b/c i want to leave it there so people can see the sale. Oh well....

Well - the Virgin MegaStore in Chicago - **refuses** to honor the $19.99 price. The deer-in-the-headlights cashier in the video store didn't know that Steven Spielberg made this. So after asking her if they had any copies - she says the computer says so. So I looked around the store and they actually had them in the front of the music section. Took a copy over to the cashier, it rang up at $39.99. I told her that the other MegaStores had it for $19.99. She shrugged and says "we don't price match".
I asked for a manager. Told him that the 2 NYC stores had a better price on an... then I was cut off...manager spewing that BMG and Arista are located in NYC and that's why cds are cheaper in NYC.
He then asks what cd title was I looking for - told him it was a DVD. He looked puzzled. Went to the computer, typed in Amazing Stories and saw that NYC was selling them at 19.99. He said it must be a pricing error. He then clicked on SF. same thing 19.99. He had his cashier scan the dvd - $39.99. But on the system that he was typing - it showed $19.99.
He flatly said "I wont honor this. Go to Best Buy. They are losing money everyday- har!".
So its a no-go in Chicago for Amazing Stories at $19.99.

We need to pick this set up so that the 2nd (and last) season will also be released. That season had some memorable episodes and you can't go wrong with season 1. Just enjoy it for what it is and you'll be glad you own it.

There were a few copies marked at $19.99 in the front "new release" display stand and in the TV section at the Ontario Mills Mall in Ontario, CA. Talked myself out of buying it, but judging by how few copies were left (4) in relation to the other new releases, I'd guess they were honoring the deal.
And FWIW, the Hulk first season was also marked at $19.99. Cheapest online price is $28.XX.

Hmmm wonder if I should take a chance and drive all the way to the Block in Anaheim for this (apparently the closest Virgin Megastore to me has been closed down )

I picked up the last copy at the block for 19.99. It was the only copy with the sticker price of 19.99. It rang up 39.99 but the cashier manually override it with no questions asked.

Was just at the Boston Virgin Megastore and they had about 8 or 9 sets on the shelf,
4 of which had a large red and white Virgin On Sale $22.99 sticker. The others were
marked at $35 (down from $50 msrp, each of these also had the large wired sensor
security device wrapped around them while the $22.99 ones did not). Upon taking
one to the counter it rang at the $35 price but the cashier knocked it down to $22.99
without asking a thing.

As of 3pm today, there's one left at $22.99. Like Brooklyn, the cashier adjusted mine from $34.99 to $22.99 without any discussion.
