Hey, what's up with The August 1st rerelease of The Graduate?
Is this just the same transfer released AGAIN? Or is this something else (hopefully anamorphic)?
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...-3811959?n=130
I tried searching to see if anyone had posted on this, but I didn't see anything.

Isn't this another one of those rereleases that Sony is doing since acquiring MGM? What is this the 4th release of this movie on DVD? This time it better be anamorphic...

Hope it's a new transfer, the old one is below par. Would be nice to have the laserdisc commentary ported as well. Doesen't look like its a SE from the artwork though.

I'm getting a sense of deja vu all over again. This happened about a year or two back with this movie, with a random re-release with a new cover.
And that's all it was... the exact same transfer that we've seen time and time again (from way back on the old Polygram DVD), with a new UPC.
For anyone who is region-free, I highly recommend getting the (anamorphic) region 2 edition. It's stunning:

For anyone who isn't region-free, this is just one more reason to consider it.
EDIT: Found it the old thread, when they pulled this shit (re-releasing the same ancient disc) a little over a year ago:

Gah. This is so many people's favorite film and frickin' JOE DIRT gets more SE love. I'd be happy with the features from the Criterion LD and/or the 25th Anniversary VHS, but really, they should have put a pretty dress on this one years ago. What the hell?

I own a copy of the Momentum R2 DVD The Graduate (1967) and I can only reiterate what bboisvert says about this DVD. The image is STUNNING! The quality of the print they used is akin to that of a film released to theatres in this present day. I highly recommend to anyone who owns a region free player to get this version of the DVD.

What a shame this has not been given the royal treatment on dvd it so deserves! How many times have studios re-released titles on dvd and they can't perfect this for a dvd.
I never knew those other dvd versions had non-anamorphic transfers. Wow, I am amazed this has not been polished to perfection for a new SE.

Knowing how cheap, stupid, greedy and lazy SONY is, I'll wager its the same old 4:3 Ltbx from 1999 (1993)
This should be a 2 disc "Superbit Deluxe" edition.
(and BTW-whatever became of that once-promising series?)
An SE *was* announced, then cancelled, right as SONY took over MGM.
and instead they gave us that sh*t repackaging.
Have they no shame?
OR are they merely clueless-or both?
sad that a transfer made in 2000, is seen as "stunning" by comparison, while they release the same old crap in 2006.
But im willing to bet that SONY are holding lots of stuff back to push Blue Ray.
(The Bonds, Leone Dollar films, etc.)
I predict it will be their funeral.
Universal R3 Korea put out a decent new 16:9 transfer a couple years ago.

What that means in terms of improvments to distribution and content is yet to be seen...

Sony kept the bond movies, as it was one of the main reasons they wanted to buy MGM

Actually, with next year being the film's 40th Anniversary, I wouldn't be surprised if they are already working on a fat BluRay Special Edition for 2007.
They'd be fools not to, anyway.
