I was extremely tense during that fight. It was excruciating to watch, and I was shocked that the Captain didn't win that one.

That was one of the most brutal fights I've ever seen. Great stuff. Sad to see the black stable owner shoot himself. Outstanding episode overall.

Why in the world did the stable owner shoot himself? He had the Money, just jump on a horse and ride out of town.

He was a black man in the mid 19th centruy. He was called a liar, obviously one thing Hostetler could not stand to be called. Had he tried to attack Steve, he would have probably met a lynch mob on his way out of town. I guess he felt there was no other course of action as he could not convince Steve that was the board, could not beat him as he wanted. I found it odd myself.


Count me in on the confusion over the Elsworth/Alm exchange. Did he taste the dope on her breathe? Will she get help before Hearst takes advantage of her using?

Good call. And Hearst maintains his position - one step ahead of everyone else in the camp.

This show now has my wife riveted, and she wanted nothing to do with Deadwood’s first two seasons. I’d love to see if the show’s ratings have possibly improved this year over last’s.

Incredible episode. Things that I've been wanting to see for a while started to happen. Loved the fight and really liked the Elsworth/Alma scene...really awkward stuff. Bullock coming to get Hearst and there exchange was fucking classic.

I was behind an episode (although I've seen half of this one so far) and wanted to ask a question regarding last weeks. Since I assume no one will pay attention to the other thread, I'm asking it in here.

Last week Adams returned and was talking to Al. Adams said he had been looking for Wolcott(?) and Al said something about while they might have been friends he needed to stop looking. This confused me because I don't remember Wolcott ever being around Adams, and I thought Wolcott's demise was known by everybody (although I confess I don't remember for sure). Anyone care to fill me in on what that part was about?

Ah thanks. Now I remember, Adams said he was looking for the guy whose name Al said never to speak again. I guess I just assumed that was Wolcott for some reason. Looks like Hawkeye was only in a couple episodes so I don't feel so bad.

Yeah, that was my take, too! She looked pretty f*cked up, so I think it was obvious to him. Ah well, his loss. Although, you have to admire his principles. She would've been hard to turn down...

My reply got really long, so I stuck it on my new blog instead of taking up half a page here (not to self-advertise). Some folks said they found my thoughts on Deadwood insightful a couple of weeks ago. I've been trying to figure out what Hearst's deal was, and the short answer is, I think he's just fucking crazy.
