Shipping showed as $12 for me.

Looks like the best deal for this unit, if you're in the market.

This should probably be moved to the HD forum. And it's not considered an "upconverting" player, although it does do that. It's "just" an HD DVD player.

I didn't write the title. It came from Amazon. You may consider sending them an email about the issue.

1) You're not linking to Amazon. You're linking to E-cost.

2) You wrote the post. Don't blame it on someone else.

I know I'm new here, so I just want to be clear. Are you saying this is NOT an upconverting player? If so, then I definitely think someone needs to contact Amazon so they can correct their information. Please verify. I don't want to buy this if it doesn't upconvert my DVDs.

The point is, it is an HD-DVD player that also upconverts standard DVDs. It also is a CD player, why not advertise it as a $400 CD player?

A $400 upconverting DVD isn't a great deal. A $400 HD-DVD player, however, is.

As to which forum it belongs in, well, it technically belongs in both since it is a Hot Deal and part of HD Talk.

I looked up ecost on reseller ratings and they have a 6 month rating of 1.43.

Yikes.

It will only upconvert over HDMI. Not component.

Either way this is not the best deal out there for an HD-DVD player. The Continental airlines deal (listed in the HD DVD section) is the best out there right now at $363 (including shipping).

dude, it IS an upconverting DVD player. yes, it is an HD-DVD player first, but it upconverts 480i to 720p. That is what upconverting players do. Cut the guy some slack - he found a great deal.
