Pirate film recommendations

Hi with potc coming out next week I have been in the mood to watch pirate films. can anyone recommend some great pirate or swashbuckling films. the older the better. I have already seen Captain blood and the sea hawk and thought both were great.
Thanks

You might try The Crimson Pirate, Scaramouche, or the 1952 Ivanhoe

Not necessarily a "pirate" movie, but similar ... check out Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World. Ships with cannons, some swordplay, adventure, great performances from Crowe and Bettany, and a great soundtrack with terrific cinematography.

Believe it or not this new Blackbeard mini-series is surprisingly watchable, provided you don't mind PG-level TV-style productions.

You could also check out Swashbuckler with Robert Shaw. Or take a chance on Cutthroat Island. (Hey, I know some folks who dig it.)

(The Black Swan comes out on 7/11. Looking forward to seeing it.)

(Anyone know who owns the rights to Polanski's Pirates? And why isn't The Island out on DVD???)

The Princess Bride (although not the main story line).

This one is easy...try some from the master... Douglas Fairbanks. If you like those, then go back and pick up "The Iron Mask" (1929) and "The Gaucho" (1927).....which for whatever reason were released separately.

The previously-mentioned CRIMSON PIRATE is one of the best.

For an unusual variation, check out Jackie Chan's PROJECT A - pirates in Hong Kong harbour!

How about The Fog? Not much swashbuckling, but there are pirates.

Night Creatures or Captain Clegg from Hammer doesn't take place at sea but has kind of pirate element to the story. I thought it was enjoyable. Found Captain Kidd (1945) to be good and funny but suffering from its public domain existence. I think there is a Roan release that may be pretty good.

A strong second to this recommendation. It's sequel is pretty good, too!

How about the 1938 Buccaneer movie? Was curious how that one was.

Haha, I saw that at Hastings the other day, and I was like "WTF?" I know POTC is popular and everything, but are people really so hard up for pirates that they'll buy edited pirate pornos to get their fix? Seemed like a stretch.
