Basically because poor sales, but there's a hope that they can be sold to smaller production companies sometime in the future.

Comparing their sales figures to mega-hits like Seinfeld and Friends may not be fair, but I still can't imagine there's too much call for these titles. Selling them to a small producer would be the way to go.

Boys Meets World was one of my favorite shows growing up...it's a real shame and I hope a smaller producer could possibly end up releasing the rest of the seasons

Would releasing whole series sets versus seasons be better for both the studios and consumers? I know this would only really work with shows already completed, but I'd think more people would pay to have the whole set at once instead of paying and waiting for each season. Perhaps the studios would sell less units but get more money for the set and decrease productions costs by not having individual seasons. I hope these and some other seasons, everwood comes to mind, that have partially releases will eventually get their releases.

Damn. I really wanted all of Boy Meets World. One of my favorite shows as a kid and I did buy the first three releases. I would pay to just own the entire series at once. They should do what VH1 does with the Surreal Life... sell the product on their website and that is it. I'd still buy them even if they were barebones releases too.

I probably would have bought most of the seasons of Murphy Brown as well. Great show.

We've been discussing this topic on the Tvshowsondvd.com blog. Here is what I wrote there:

I have to disagree with the studio's mentality to discontinue, cancel or stop production on the several TV on DVD sets. It is unfair to compare the sales of big time sitcoms like Friends and Seinfeld to decide whether or not this almost cult-like TV show be released on DVD. I find the studio's vision short-sighted and its research to have been done very poorly. There are many ways to satisfy consumers or fans of these TV shows like selling them as exclusives on DVD online retailers or on exclusive clubs like Columbia House or Disney's Movie Club. As exclusives, production on those set wouldn't be that expensive and fans will be satisfied on completing their favorite series, even if the have to pay a premium price. Studios and consumers will be happy and season set will be completed.

I can see the studios point though...

If 50% of the people who bought Season 1 didn't buy Season 3... why make season 4?

I can understand the demand for it from the fans and even claims you'd buy "at a premium," but imagine the bitching/moaning/complaining we'd hear if Season 4 came out with a $70 price tag. People would protest it, not buy it, and sales would plummet even further.

I think once you put out season 3 of something, you should be committed to putting out the rest of the seasons.

Thank goodness 'Fat Actress' was only 1 season. Now I can savor that forever. To think if it went to season 2 and it wouldnt come to dvd, it would freak me out for years!

Kinda surprised Murphy Brown won't continue...but the others are unerstandable. BMW was great, but it was only getting purchased by big fans, not casual buyers.

I think it ran something like '92-'00, maybe 8 seasons. It's the only one of the group I was collecting, but a bummer for all of em.

No loss for me. Only one I would consider buying is boy meets world and thats only if its cheap a season.

This proves for most TV shows, with the exception of Seinfeld, Cheers, or All in the Family, they should just put out of Best of Episodes sets. I know so many TV shows that I liked but didn't love, but there is no way I am buying all the seasons for a handfull of good shows each year.

Give me a best of set of Whos the Boss, Growing Pains, Coach, and many other great sitcoms from the 80's/early 90's, and I would buy everyone of them. Season sets, I will take a pass.

Statistically, first seasons sell the best. Ony a handful of shows are popular enough to sell well through their entire run.

Yeah, I was shocked as hell to see S2 of Diff'rent Strokes after almost a year and a half. Doesn't bode to well for S3. I vote for releasing the entire series at one shot. I would've kept buying Who's The Boss.
