Naming your band an unpronouncable word (!!! for example)

!!!
Doesn't this kind of limit your chances for making it?

"Do you have the new album by !!!?"

"I'd like to buy tickets for !!!"

It worked for during that phase just because he at least had the Prince name to play off of, "Artist formerly known as..." etc.

According to wikipedia...
!!! (pronounced chk chk chk, or any other syllable repeated three times — pow pow pow, uh uh uh, etc.)
Kind of silly, IMO.

"Chk chk chk" is by far the most common pronounciation for the band. I wasn't aware of any alternate ones until I read this thread.

The clever thing about that name, though, is it's at the top of artist lists when sorting alphabetically.

I've also always heard it as "chk, chk, chk". I've never heard the music, though.

Is the Piano Man ruined by every person in the crowd singing along to it? That always annoyed me when that song turned into karokee night.

I'm a fan of the umlaut that Björk and a lot of heavy bands use so copiously. Somebody seriously needs to start a band called Ümläüt and the Öömpä-Löömpäs.

I can't wait until some band names itself:

(i.e. a blank space)

It's coming (if it hasn't happened already), I'm sure.

!!! makes some really fun music. also, the wikipedia definition is correct. while the band is normally referred to as chk chk chk (i think that is supposed to be three quick, staccato symbal taps), they insist that any (musical?) sound repeated three times suffices. very post mod, i guess. anyway, check out the music.
