Installation of my free HD-Tivo is scheduled for Monday! (I was already a Sunday Ticket subscriber) Also credited my account for the shipping charge, and gave me 3 months free HD package! I've only been a customer for a little over a year, so you don't have to be a "long timer".

It did take 2 calls to retention, so if at first you don't succeed...

What phone number did you call? Do you currently have a HD-Tivo or will this be your first? I call DTV and told them not to renew my NFL ticket to see if I could get in on another HD-Tivo.

I called the retention number: 800-824-9081

I already have an HD receiver and an SD-Tivo, but did not have an HD-Tivo.

People are reporting mixed results, so you might have to call multiple times. I politely said I had been reading reports of a deal for a free HD-Tivo with Sunday Ticket, and wanted to inquire about it. The first time I called, I was told I didn't qualify, was offered another deal. I said I'd think about it (which was a lie). I called back about an hour later, and this time was told I qualified for the deal.

Others have reported that you have to try cancelling ST to get the offer. I never once mentioned the cancellation of ST or any other D* programming, so I am proof that this is not "required".

If they don't offer it to you, just politely hang up, and call back later hoping for a different CSR. Good luck!

Mine is scheduled to be installed tomorrow!

I had to call multiple times. The first time I came right out and asked for the H10, saying a "friend" was offered the deal. The CSR said the only deal on that model was $100 off the regular $499 price.

The second time I called I simply said I was thinking about cancelling Sunday Ticket. After being put on hold for 5 minutes, the CSR came back and offered to knock $5 off each of my 5 Sunday Ticket payments.

The third time resulted in the same response as the second.

I hit pay dirt with the fourth call. I said I was thinking of cancelling ST, she offered me a DVR, but only the standard $99 model. I asked for the H10, she "checked her system" to see if she could give it to me, and was successful.

I called and they stated I need some ones last name and zip code who got the deal already so they can look it up.
Now that sucks!

OK, I called back and they told me I could not get in on the deal. This is due to the deal I got in back in 10-1-2005. But she did give it to me for $199.99 and gave me a$200.00 credit + $19.99 (shipping) credit and $20.00 per month credit. SO by not being eligible for the deal I paid (-$120.00). Now that is a smoking hot deal. Now it did take 3 calls and it all worked out in the end. My install date is the 19th of July.

One note...they will be upgrading you to the new DVR once it comes out in October or November. Gotta love the deals we find!

Well, no one knows for sure if that will be free. The CSRs seem to think so, and DirecTV is usually good about that, but I wouldn't count on that 100% just yet.

The leased receivers (like this one) there maybe a fee involved. But the one I purchased in October should be a clean swap...per DTV.

Again, DirecTV has been very good about this, however, you are getting info from CSRs. Corporate has never said anything about the swapouts other than "there might be a fee involved". Only time will tell.

Ugh... too bad I didn;t know about this deal before, or wait a little bit.

I just called DirecTv about 2 weeks ago to get a HD receiver. I was offered a HD receiver, non DVR, for free + $19.95 shipping. I had to renew my contract, as my 1 year original contract expired.

I bet if I was to call now, I would not qualify because I just got a special offer. I'd have much rather had the dvr. Oh well.. nothing I can do now.

Still, a great deal for those that can get it.

Vryce,

Call and see what they will do for you. I bet you will be able to get in on the deal or just tell them they sent you the wrong box. ;')

Important note... according to the linked site, DirecTV is doing this to rid themselves of their HD Tivo inventory in advance of their MPEG 4 DVR coming in (now) November. Aren't the HD network channels MPEG 4?

You're the f*cking man Deftones!
Worked on my first call and i'll be getting mine installed on Thursday.

Local HD channels will be yes in MPEG-4.

But I get all but one OTA, and the one I don't get I get most of the time, it just occasionally drops the signal.

Yes, and yes. However, the switchover to MPEG-4 is ongoing so these won't just become obsolete in November.

MPEG-2 will be shut off some time late next year.

**Note on leased receivers**
My installer told me that DTV would have a hard time getting a leased receiver back due to the customer not signing anything. He told me he was told not to tell customers this.

Where did you hear this? That's a mighty agressive push in only about 18 months. I'm in the 69th TV market and we won't be getting mpeg4 until at least September. That still leaves about 150 to go.

Tried and denied since I have only been a customer for a short time (just over 1 month).

You need to keep trying over and over until you get the deal. It could take 3 calls or it could take 20 calls.....just keep on trying until you get the deal.

Directly from DTV themself.

Well, we'll see I guess. DTV has made promises before that they didn't even come remotely close to filling.

They promised industry leading HD content (which is a couple years old now) and they're falling further and further behind, IMO.

I'd be shocked if DirecTV shut off MPEG-2 so soon. I don't see how the numbers support that assertion.
