I remember the original, but never thought it warranted a re-make. I just remember having a thing for Jill Schoelen.

Since Terry O'Quinn was the original star, will they get Josh Holloway or Matthew Fox to star in the remake?

The original was actually pretty decent haven't seen it in years (and I mean years) but I do remember quite a bit of blood.....but a remake sounds pointless.

'Stepfather' finds family
Trio added to cast of Screen Gems remake
By MICHAEL FLEMING

Dylan Walsh, Sela Ward and Penn Badgley are set to star in “The Stepfather,” a Screen Gems remake of the 1987 thriller. Adrianne Palicki is in negotiations to round out the cast.

Screem Gems is aiming the film as more of a Hitchcock-style thriller than the original. Story centers on a teenage boy (Badgley) who discovers his soon-to-be stepfather isn’t all he appears. In fact, the man who fell in love with his mother (Sela Ward), might be a psycho who murdered his previous family. Palicki would play the boy’s girlfriend.

“Nip/Tuck” star Walsh plays the title role originated by “Lost” star Terry O’Quinn. O’Quinn played the role in a 1989 sequel as well.

The redo will be directed by Nelson McCormick (“Prom Night”) from a script by J.S. Cardone. Greg Mooradian and Mark Morgan of Maverick Films will produce.

Production is aimed to start in March or April.

Sounds more like they are mixing up parts of Stepfather with First Born..

Since the Prom Night remake is PG-13, i'm assuming this will be as well.

at least we might get a DVD release of the original now

You know what, I actually think Walsh will make a good Stepfather. He's got just the right amount of creepy altruism to pull it off. I can see him trying to be the good father but in the end letting the bad father win out. Oh well, like it was said hopefully we get a SE of the original.

I like it. Too bad the flick is going to be PG-13 because that poster calls for some awesome 80's R-rated action.

Much as I won't want to see this, I LOVE the old-school poster vibe of this one, right down to the font.

Weak, just weak. The Stepfather was such a great little thriller. These remakes are pissing me off.

Everytime I see Terry O'Quinn in something I say "hey, it's the Stepfather". I watched all of them (even despite the whole silly surgery subplot from the sequels).

I hope the original gets released on BD.

Love the poster, hate that it's PG-13.

Love the cast and I will most likely see this. I think Dylan Walsh will make an excellent Stepfather and I love Sela Ward as well. I am disappointed that once again Sony wimped out and chose to make a watered down PG-13 movie rather than going for the Hard R Rating.

BTW, why doesn't the original Stepfather have a DVD out? Who has the rights to it now since Embassy is long out of business?

Looks good. I will definitely check it out come October.

Looks like shit. I'd say that it maybe could have some potential if it were rated R, but this will be another Prom Night from the look of things.

I did like that they kept the "Who am I here?" line, though.
