I just ordered season 8 & 9 for $24.97 each from Amazon.com. I did a quick search and saw most if not all the season (I believe they are in their new packaging) for $24.97 each.

Good catch. I also needed Seasons 8 & 9 to finish off the series, but I couldn't bring myself to pay big money for them since they were weaker seasons. For $50, now I can.:)

Edit....Just placed my ordered. Thanks OP. $74.97 with shipping on all 3 is a great price and no taxes.

I've only seen X-Files Season 1 and must admit that I found it a little boring. But I know the series is so popular. Does the show pick up the pace and get any better?

Season one did kind of suck. I haven't seen all of Season two, but three and four are great.

I personally thought season 1 was great! I didn't really think it picked up a whole lot from there, more that it just maintained the great quality for the next few seasons. I'm currently watching season 4.

Thanks OP, gonna order season 7 now.

Amazon has them for $89.99 each.

I think it is a very mild YMMV. My store has the old sets with a sticker price of $9x, but I did a price check and then rang up as $42 and while checking out, the $30 got auto discounted from the total. So, for me at least, they both ring up at $42, and is included with the discount.

Keep in mind that these new versions of the sets are sans bonus features and have fewer discs (for instance, Season 9 originally had seven discs, now it has five). Something to consider if you have seasons from the orginal release and are looking to complete the series.

Plus, don't forget about the spin-off "The Lone Gunmen". Wal-mart had that 3-disc set for $19.xx a few months back and might still be available at some locations.

This probably a stupid question, but I'm going to ask it anyway. I just finished season two and plan on starting season three this weekend, but the movie is playing at my local revial theater on Saturday night, and I'm wondering if I go and see it with only a season 1/2 knowledge will I understand what is going on? and more importantly will it give away major storylines from seasons 3-5?

Thanks!

The movie may make a little more sense but you already have the basic back story. It may even make you want to watch the seasons even more. I had only watched a few episodes when I saw the film and I really liked it and it made me watch season 6 and 7. Kinda stopped watching after Mulder left the show. Can anyone recommend seasons 8 and 9?

If you have the chance to see it on the big screen, don't pass it up.

So the xfiles sets are completely without features?

Were there any on the old sets that were good enough for them to be preferable to the new ones?

I was hoping to use the bundle feature that amazon has but noticed they only use it for the older sets. So you can get new S1 and S2 for 24 each, or get new S1 and old S2 bundle for $114.96!! What a steal..

So the new X-Files sets, are the discs with actual episodes the same, just minus the bonus discs, or what? Ive had season 1 of the original release for awhile and had a faulty disc 1 (I thought it just didnt agree with one player, but now it has issues in all players)...I hate going through the FOX replacement program, especially considering Ill end up having to exchange my original release for the new release, so I want to know if I could simply exchange the disc out of this set (and then hopefully find someone that will buy this and doesnt didnt mind this set has a faulty second episode :) ).

Because you only have 12 posts in the past 5 1/2 years. :D

Your title is based on the number of posts you have.

So the xfiles sets are completely without features?

Nope. They dropped any discs that only contained bonus features. Any bonus features mixed in with the original episodes (commentaries, deleted scenes, cast lists and international clips) are still on the new sets.

Also because season six had the bonus features on the last disc with the final episodes, they've also been retained on the new set. The other seasons (1-5) had the bonus features entirely on their own discs.

I know that seasons 7 & 8 were like season 6. The bonus features were NOT on their own disc. I suspect that they may be complete on the new sets as well. But my last three sets are supposed to be for Father's Day so I can't open them and check. :(

Anyone care to pop in disc 6 of seasons 7 & 8 and see if they've included all the bonus material from the original releases?

From Amazon reviews (boldfacing mine):

Season 7:

This set comes with commentary tracks on "First Person Shooter by Chris Carter, Gillian Anderson on "All Things" and writer Vince Gilligan on "Je Sohaite". A couple of episodes have deleted scenes that you can integrate into the episode by going to the menu and activating it. There are also a number of international language clips as well but the last disc that featured the special effects featurettes and documentary are NOT included here as part of this set.

(Season 8)

The 8th season reduced cost set has commentary tracks on "Alone" by Frank Spotnitz and by Kim Manners on "Existence". There are also a couple of episodes with deleted scenes that you can watch restored to the respective episodes via the main menu. We also have more of those goofy international clips but all the extras on the seventh disc aren't included.

(Season 9)

The thinpak boxed set has all 19 episodes. Despite comments to the contrary some extras ARE included for this set including the commentary track for "Improbable" by Carter, writers Gilligan, John Shiban and Spotnitz on "Jump the Shark" and director Kim Manners on "The Truth". Deleted scenes are also included for episodes and can be reintegrated through the main menu (a small X will appear in the corner noting which are deleted scenes). The shows are presented in anamorphic widescreen with exceptional transfers. During some of the darker scenes in a couple of episodes the transfer turns murky for a brief period of time but that's few and far between. The Dolby Digital Surround tracks are nicely used to create atmosphere and add to the tension for the best episodes.

What's missing? The documentary on the making of "The Truth", the deleted scenes that were grouped together on the last discs, the profiles, featurettes and the DVD-ROM game "The Truth".

Thanks to the dude on Amazon putting useful reviews in.

I'm still scrounging for the big box sets as I don't want to miss the special features. I didn't get to BB early enough this week...the big box S7&9 were sold out, although they were there last week :(...I need to do a 20 mile drive to another city to the other BB that has S7 big-box. Dunno what to do about S9 yet. :(

I do order from DDD... just did during this recent sale, but I would never order a snapper case, any disc with a slip cover, or a digipack from them because they always look like they were dragged behind the postal truck before they arrived.

My line of thinking exactly... DDD's great, but the low price does get offset by slow shipping and (often) banged up goods. Amazon's standard (free) shipping takes two days for me.

The free shipping being MEDIA MAIL means its longer in the system which can lead to trouble (dents/loose discs/cracks in packaging, and there is the fact that they only use craft paper to cushion the dvds in the boxes...

I really prefer AMAZON's use of shrinkwrapping the order to a piece of cardboard and then glueing that cardboard to the box to secure everything.

Just my experience from both Retailers. DDD is great, I just wish they would do something about the packaging of orders. That's all.
