I love I, Robot on TOL.

Big fan of the TZ ep with Martin Sheen on "Mars" and the "people" in the cylinder, and of course, the cornfield people episode (as you can see, I'm shit with the ep names).

But honestly, even the bad eps are still pretty decent. Definitely worth a rental (once you know the twists, they have no replay value, to me at least).

To answer your question, no, The Outer Limits was not as good as The Twilight Zone.

Great Zones to consider: "Where is Everybody?", "Nightmare at 20,000 Feet", "Nick of Time", "An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge", "A Game of Pool", "On Thursday We Leave for Home", "The Midnight Sun", "Third from the Sun", "The Hitch-Hiker", "The Monsters are Due on Maple Street". For humor: "A World of His Own", "A Penny for Your Thoughts", and maybe "The Bard". Also, some "classics" that have to be seen at least once: "Time Enough at Last", "The Eye of the Beholder", "The Masks", "To Serve Man", and "The Howling Man".

I have fond memories of the original TOL from when I saw them in syndication in the 80s. Upon viewing most of them on the MGM DVD sets (later pressings of both volumes are defective and I couldn't get all of them to play), I am struck by how many of them have ten minutes stories (if that) stretched to 50 minutes and rely heavily on creating a creepy atmosphere. If you don't get caught up in the atmosphere, at the end of a lot of episodes you'll be saying "is that it?" and being unsatisfied.

That said, Demon with a Glass Hand, from the generally weaker (and shorter at 17 episodes vs. 32 for season one) is very good. Written by Harlan Ellison and featuring Robert Culp, who was in The Architects of Fear (also a good episode, although it is characteristically stonger on atmosphere than story).

Favorite TZs- "Will the Real Martian Please Stand Up" and Night of the Meek'

Harlan Ellison also wrote the OL episode "The Soldier". i believe it was this story he claimed Terminator was ripping off.

Other good OLs- "Invisible Enemy" with Adam West where astronauts crash on sand planet and get picked off by monster in the sand. "Specimen:Unknown" about killer flowers from outer space.

Both shows are must haves for me.

I was just saying the same thing the other day (about TZ). I watched one with Charles Bronson and Elizabeth Montgomery. CB said very little and merely walked around town for almost the entire ep. EM did not have a single spoken line. I believe the point was that two "soldiers" from opposite sides could become friends/lovers. A 5 minute story that dragged on and on and on. I'm sure there are some eps that are good but many of the ones I have seen have very simplistic plots and are extremely padded for time with many worthless/boring scenes.

The remakes of Outer Limits on the other hand are excellent. I have seen many of those and most seem to be very well written and interesting.
