I'm sure it's real, but...

1. Stepmania is a Dance Dance Revolution clone/simulator for the PC (and Xbox and others). Not only can people use songs and steps from the official games, but there is a subculture of people who create their own stepfiles with all sorts of songs. A lot of these mega-hard files are created by people who think the hardest ones are still too easy. So I have no doubt the song/steps part is real.

2. Being that we can't see the player, I doubt the person is actually using a dance mat for this. Most likely he is using the keyboard or a controller. Granted, it's still a tough feat but nowhere near as impossible as something like that would have been on a dance mat.

I've seen experiments that indicate that, with enough practice, people can memorize extremely long strands of inputs. If these things are requesting inputs in reasonable patterns, somebody playing on a keyboard or controller, with enough dedication, could do stuff like this with incredible precision.

Of course, it takes a lot less time to move your finger half an inch than it does to move your feet on one of those pads. If such a thing is possible, and I doubt it, I'm sure the person would probably invest their remarkable athletic prowess in a sport that earns more respect and accolades than DDR. It makes a lot of sense that the people who play on gamepads or keyboards find the hardest pre-packaged puzzles to be easy. They're designed to be danced.

Back on track, it seems a bunch of people also want Dragonforce on Guitar Hero, but I think that'd kill most people as well and leave them with a crippled mess of a hand.

I don't buy that at all. People will do what they like.

However I do think it's done on a keyboard or something, but it's still impressive.

I've always found the free-stylers more impressive than the people who can move their feet really quickly though.

At the end he said "I don't know how many of those were Pat and how many were me"

Does this mean he had somebody else assisting?
