LOST followers .... does this get any better??

Well folks I finally got a chance to get started on LOST S1. I am half way through it and I am wondering what all the hoopla is about this show.
Spoiler:
Claire was just kidnapped. Kate got the airplane out of the case. Lock and Shannon's brother found something in the jungle. Saeed is back. They moved to a different part of the beach. Shannon translated the french "lyrics".

While I do find it mildly interesting enough to see the next episode, I DO NOT feel utterly COMPELLED to keep going (as in I absolutely have to see what happens next and cannot put the remote down).

I fully expected to be captivated with this show and dying to see each new episode like I did with 24, Farscape, BSG, West Wing, B5, Alias, but its not there right now.

I do admit that I think performances on the show are excellent - Jack, Kate , Sawyer, Lock (this guy is creepy cool), even Hurley is a fun diversion. I could do w/o Shannon and her brother though.

I plan to keep going with it til the end of the first season but am I missing something here??

Sorry for the rant & thanks.

Greg

PS - It was cool to see Mira Furlan back on the small screen!

I'd say if that's how you feel after the midpoint of season one, there's not a real good reason to continue.

If you're not sucked in by now, it may just not be your "cup of tea". Nothing wrong with that. I watched all of Season 1 in like a week last summer because I couldn't stop.

But you coulnd't get me to watch American Idol or 24 if they were the last shows on Earth and I am obviously in the minority there, so different strokes for different folks.

Same for me and my wife - watched all of S1 in about a week. Loved it. Now I'm one of the biggest followers of the show.

I loved from ep 1. If you don't care for it by now, I'd look for something else. LOST isn't for everyone.

I'd say it's not the show for you. If you're not digging it by now, you probably won't enjoy the rest any better. Unlike something like B5, there's no magical point you have to reach before the show starts getting good.

Yeah, if you're not in by now, you won't be in as the first half or so of Season 1 is arguably the strongest of the 2 seasons thus far.

If you're not loving it by now then you probably won't enjoy the rest of it. And I can't imagine what you would think of S2.

It took a couple episodes to grab me, but not until halfway through the first season. I'd say I was officially hooked with Walkabout, which I think was the 4th or 5th episode. This was watching it on tv though. I think having to wait a week to see what happens next ratchets the suspense up a bit more than being able to just pop in the next disc. Either way, if you're enjoying it despite not feeling 'compelled' to watch it, I'd go ahead and finish season 1 at a minimum. I think it's some of the best writing and acting I've ever seen in a television season. The second season, IMHO, drops off in quality quite a bit, staying pretty uneven throughout before kicking it up a notch to finish with around 7 or 8 really great episodes.

As has already been said, you probably want to bail now if the show hasn't grabbed you by the throat. And quite honestly, if the pilot ep didn't do it then it's just not your bag.

If you are, however, interested in selling your Lost S1, drop me an email.

I'll reiterate what the other posters said. If you're not digging the first half of Season 1, just quit now while you're behind.

The first 2/3 of Season 1 represent Lost at its peak. The final 1/3 of the season was filled with worthless flashbacks and the finale was a joke. Now fortunately for you should you decide to continue watching, you can go right from the finale to the Season 2 premiere. The massive letdown of the Season 1 "cliffhanger" will leave you a lot less underwhelmed if you can jump right into the following episode.

Season 2 however is a major dropoff even from the final 1/3 of Season 1. More worthless flashbacks, an annoying new character is introduced(well technically she's shown toward the end of Season 1), and the show spins its wheels for the majority of the year since the producers and ABC are blatantly trying to milk this thing for all they can.

The final handful of episodes were pretty solid, but for me it could be too little, too late. Plus the Season 2 cliffhanger made no sense to me whatsoever and was eerily reminscent of another J.J. Abrams 2nd season ending(that being Alias) which marked the "jump the shark" moment for that show.

Thanks folks.

I am definitely going to watch the rest of S1. I will admit one of the reasons I have watched this many so far is that I feel that everyone is doing an excellent "job".

That being said I guess I was expecting a little more of a grab ahold of you and fling you out of control down a cliff like 24 does. Its not that kind of show and I guess my expectations were simply set in the wrong place. I definitely enjoy the character interaction.

The flashback stuff is annoying for sure (to me that is), and the "hokey" crap they have alluded to since day one
Spoiler:
some large dinousaur like thing on the island
-- gimme a break. I almost stopped watching at that point.

I'll give it til the end of S1 minimum as I am curious see what's up with
Spoiler:
Claire & whatever Lock found

Thanks for the input though folks, much appreciated!!

Greg

If you can't stomach the invisible monster then I'd stop watching it completely. The rest of the show is full of "hokey" crap. Personally I like the "hokey" crap. Watching a bunch of people f off on an island would be boring as hell.

I was hooked about 5 minutes into the pilot. If you're not into it by now, you probably never will be.

It's basically like x-files, there are no answers but more questions.

There are plenty of answers, but some people consistently refuse to acknowledge that there are answers.

I think you still might come around to liking the show more because a lot of interesting ideas start up in the 2nd half of the season, so definitely keep watching until at least the end of Season 1. If the Season 1 finale doesn't leave you wanting to see more, then that's the point you should stop watching.

BTW...
Spoiler:

...that thing is NOT a dinosaur, or other any type of animal. You'll actually get to see it briefly in the 2nd half of the season.

I dont know what you expected but I along with most were hooked from the first minute. if you dont like the dinosaur I would quit watching, thats what makes Lost so cool. The mystery, theres lots of stuff on that order, I mean they are on no regular island. That stuff is what makes the show so amazing, and how all the characters storys connect somehow, people in the flashbacks etc. Theres alot of stuff you will consider "hokey" even though I 100% disagree. So i doubt you will enjoy the rest.

I was hooked five minutes into the first episode, and I've never looked back. While it's hard for me to imagine someone not being interested in this show, I'll have to agree that, if you aren't that into it half way through S1, you might as well give up now.

I can't get my brother to even watch this show but he loves Grey's Anatomy and wouldn't miss an episode of it. Funny how some people are simply turned off from watching a show simply because other people love it and want more. I never watched Lost during the first season's run because I was unsure what it was about, but when the dvds came out I bought em and we watched the whole season within a few days.

Yup, hooked from the beginning and I think it's been strong ever since, so it's probably not for you.

When I lived at home, my younger brother would do the same thing. I got the Alias DVDs (a genre that he LOVES), and watched the first couple seasons in a few days (obviously pretty gripping show)...I kept telling him he had to watch it, it was so damned good...but he never did, probably just because his jerk brother liked it. Gotta love petty sibling arguments.
