Yep, the game looks fun...people are saying it's rather short, but he decent replayability. I think there is an internal clock in the game where you have to wait for a chopper to rescue you.

I hope the game is fun....seems like a great concept (although, some are worried it might turn into State of Emerency )

The trailer has made Dead Rising the most anticipated game of the year for me, between the graphics and playability (at least it appears to be very easy to control), I'm hoping it will be great.

Yes, I WAS excited. Until it got bumped, bumped again, then bumped once more. The latest bump was out to Sept 06, but it looks like that latest is Dec 06. :(

By then, I'll be eagerly awaiting the release of the Wii.

Wow... December? That's terrible. Talk about killing the anticipation, releasing the trailer nearly 10 months ahead of the game isn't really helpful.

The XBL forums had a few links that mentioned Sept and Dec. At this point I'd be delighted if it were only delayed until August.

While the latest batch of screenshots are mighty impressive, from the video I watched, it just reminded me of "State of Emergency", which wasn't enjoyable at all. This will have many many more ways to kill things, but it looked to have the same gameplay. Did I simply misinterpret the gameplay video?

SoE was a frantic game with numerous characters on screen at the same time.

Dead Rising is a frantic game with numerous characters on screen at the same time who want to eat you alive.

My buddy and I were talking about Dead Rising at work the other day and I was trying to explain something to him. I did zombie games but they stress the hell out of me. Resident Evil was a game that worked my last nerve and there were maybe 6 zombies in a room at a time in the first few games? As much as I look forward to Dead Rising there is a part of me that already feels overwhelmed by the mass amount of undead that will be coming after me. I think it'll be a kick ass game but I can't see myself playing for very long each time I fire it up. I played SoE for a short period of time but that was just because it sucked.

Same here... I don't know if it's a phobia or what. This game looks great and if the reviews are good I'll pick this up, but Im ALREADY stressed out about the sheer number of zombies that would want to take me out. It almost looks insurmountable - so maybe that's why it creeps me out.

To be fair, Resident Evil is meant to be a horror game; Dead Rising is not. Dead Rising is a brightly lit game without the zombies hiding in the corner of a pitch dark room. I think Dead Rising is meant to be more of a comedy what with the clown zombies, beating zombies with a beach volleyball, the toy store with Megaman suit, etc.

My drunk ass laughed so hard when I saw the lightsabers.

Where did you see lightsabers? I don't remember seeing them.

Capcom has said it is a 360 exclusive, but that doesn't really mean anything. Resident Evil was supposed to be exclusive to the Playstation, but it went to the Dreamcast with Code Veronica. Later, Resident Evil was supposed to become exclusive to the Gamecube. I remember the RE director saying that if RE4 ever came to the PS2, he would cut his own head off. Needless to say, that didn't happen. I wouldn't trust Capcom whenever they say something is supposed to be exclusive.

I'm lured to this game because the whole 'zombie' theme is so appealing to me. Sure, it's campy and downright corny sometimes, but that's part of the reason I like this theme so much.

As for the massive amounts of zombies that seem to be a never ending onslaught...reviews have indicated that certain weapons are made available that can knock down multiple zombies in one move. I think this game will force you to clear a path to make a getaway. So, if you're the type that likes to kill everything on screen, this game should keep you busy.

After you finish the game you get to unlock endless mode which allows you to kill tons of zombies. I'm so excited this game got pushed up to next month!!!

Oh and yes pretty much anything you can think of will be avaliable to kill the zombie. There is a list at IGN, and lightsabers and toy lightsabers are on there.

Seriously, thats all gonna depend on how fun it is to kill the zombies.

Look at GTA3 and its sequels, killing people and using various weapons made the game very replayable for me (damn, that samurai sword in Vice city was awesome...especially after downing a pill). If this is anything like that, I will love it.

I get the feeling that this game is being over-hyped. Initially, I read that it would feature a fully interractive world where anything can be used. They seemed to have backed off that perception and have been pushing "use anything as a weapon".

What's the difference? Well, a fully interractive world would allow me to move crates, boxes, shelving units, etc. to barracade myself in or corral zombies.

I have a feeling that when this game is finally released, it will be a simple "chase view" shooter with a very long list of weapons. There's no online play, no co-op mode. Tossing watermelons at zombies is going to be fun for oh...say... 30 seconds.

DEAD RISING is the next 360 game I'll be purchasing, but I have a feeling that it is going to be a real letdown.

That is something i had read in the early previews. I had read that the game will take 8 hours realtime and that you could hide in a room and sit there for 8 hours and never do anything and get one ending. Then depending on how many people you free, what you do etc. will give you several different endings. This was an early preview though - who knows how true it all is now.

My concern is how much depth is to the game. The demo seemed pretty shallow. Run around and kill zombies. Is that it? Might be good to blow off some steam but it just seems shallow to me.

Don't get me wrong, the demo is fun, but I need some missions or something.

There are missions. Killing zombies is only ancillary to them. The demo just shows off the free roam, bash zombies aspect of the game. Also, there is a lot more to the demo than it might appear. See http://boards.ign.com/dead_rising/b8413/123937268/p1/?7

GameBrink - 80%

http://www.gamebrink.com/xbox-360/1697-Dead_Rising-reviews.html

Once the initial joy of destruction has subsided youll want to get into the actual core of the game which takes place over 72 hours within a mall. Each hour is about 5 minutes real time and each quest known as a case requires that you be somewhere in the mall at exactly the right in-game time. While this doesnt sound to limiting it does get quite annoying when all you want to do is search around for a new object to throw or swing at the sea of undead surrounding you.

Pros

Huge environment with tons of items
Combat is a blast
Storytelling and voice acting are great

Cons

Save sytem
RPG leveling system
Case mission system

1UP - 84%

The end result is a relentlessly inventive game worth the price of entry. With more than enough first-person shooters, racing games, and other cookie-cutter filler swamping the 360, it's encouraging to see such an original title land on the system. The experience is flawed -- some might say hampered -- by the save system and curiously designed game structure. But whether you 'get it' or not, Dead Rising nevertheless provides a wealth of secrets and mysteries for both eager gamers and the adventuresome. With each repeated play through a stage, Frank becomes stronger, better able to uncover the mysteries behind this allegorical horror adventure (we'll let you discover what really makes zombies zombies), and the experience becomes richer for it. While there's plenty of room for polish and finesse in future iterations, no hardcore gamer should miss the wholly unique experience provided in Dead Rising's debut.

Dead Rising may not be a game for everyone, but it for those that have enjoyed past Capcom games and zombie games of the past will definitely want to check this out as it’s completely dissimilar from anything you’ve seen before. The astounding level of variety that is packed into the game is wonderful to see. While side missions can be tedious at times, there’s nothing that’s truly forcing you to complete them so feel free to steer clear if you like. The story is engaging and semi-comical at times, it definitely heads in a different direction than you’re expecting at the beginning. In short, this is the game that you should own in the interim between now and the holiday season’s onslaught of gaming bliss.

I can't wait to run around the mall like Mega Man!

This game looks pretty good. Kinda reminds me of Gun: really good game with open gameplay but really short. But it seems like this might have a little more replay value than Gun. I'll probably pick it up even though I don't want to pay $60 but a game like this needs to be supported (just like Gun) to encourage developers to keeping on producing games like this instead of another Need For Speed, Madden, or Medal of Honor sequel (don't get me wrong, these are good games but it gets a little old playing the same franchise sequels over and over).

Hmmm, I may be interested in a 2 for 1....I have NHL and NBA for the 360 to get rid of.

On Topic....the demo was fun to me, but after reading more about everything you can do with this game, sounds like a MUST buy for me now. I guess after my 3rd season of NCAA, I'm ready for something new.

Do most of you guys think it's worth paying full price for this game? I'm just wondering what sort of replay value it really has.

I read that it's got some unlockable modes, but I typically don't buy a game unless it has a multiplayer aspect.

I'm really tempted by the hype (and I have yet to play the demo, so that may sway me), but I think I'll pass, even at the $50 discount Fry's will have it at (man, $50 is the sale price now).

However, if it had split-screen multiplayer...

Though Dead Rising may seem like a simple, mindless game when you first pick it up, it eventually reveals itself as a deeper experience. Tons of extras are packed into Willamette's shops, there are magazine power-ups and special drink mixes to be brewed, lots of clothing combinations, countless pictures to be taken and plenty of NPCs to be saved. The game provides an incentive for every aspect, making each worth pursuing. It's a game that somehow remains cohesive despite having so many seemingly unrelated aspects. The save system means you're going to be playing through the 72 Hour and Overtime modes multiple times, but at least along the way you'll level up, get the best ending, nab more achievements, and get better scores on the Xbox Live leaderboards. With a better save system, more intelligent NPCs, a more forgiving story progression, and tighter controls, Dead Rising could have been even more fun than it already is. Even despite those issues, after several times through it's impossible to deny the appeal inherent in slaughtering Willamette's zombified shoppers. Now if only there was a cooperative mode. We suppose we'll have to wait for the sequel, if Capcom decides to make one. As it stands, Dead Rising is one of the more unique and entertaining titles on the Xbox 360.

Haven't really noticed, considering a 5.0 is considered mediocre and not average on Gamespot, a 7 average isn't exactly a bias.

And overall, there's just been fewer games reviewed lately on both IGN and Gamespot.

But hey, if people want to hunt out conspiracy theories, more power to them.

I think they have to say that. They had people mad at them before for not having the game in stock on release day due to all the pre-orders taking up their first shipment.

Everytime ive asked them about a game, they say the same thing to me. Pre-order guarantees you a game. Though, pre-ordering didnt work when the 360 came out. ;)

I call bullshit on that one. The game just came out yesterday. There is no reason content should be available yet. It should be included on the fucking disc. This is that fine line that the marketplace straddles. Do developers intentionally hold content back(that you otherwise would be getting anyway) just to hook you on mini-transactions? What about the 40% of people not on live/have broadband? They have just been screwed out of content on release day.

Granted this one is free and pretty generic content, it still treads shakey ground.

Well, I kind of agree with you, but I see the other side too. I dont have xbox live, but I do have a broadband connection. Just didnt want to pay the fee since I dont play online games much. But, they have to coax people somehow. This content and Oblivion content might make me start subscribing.

Basically, they have to build their customer base on live and this is one of the ways to get people connected.

It is also a marketing thing to say they have downloadable content. I know when i look at a new game and see that there is the potential for downloadable content it gives it some bonus points over something that has no possibility of downloadable stuff. If the content is free then i don't see what the grand issue is. It does in fact leave some people out but it also is a huge marketing play to entice the silver members to go into the marketplace and see what all they can download. Chances off that will pay off big when they discover the arcade and start buying games. ;)

You don't have to subscribe to download - that is what the silver tier is for. However i think if people are in the marketplace much and start playing with the arcade some many will want to upgrade to gold to play some of the arcade games with friends. Uno i have a hunch might have converted some silver accounts to gold. SFII probably did as well.

Not to totally derail the thread but, I also just read that Battle for Middle Earth had downloadable maps for about $10 on release day. Maps that were obviously developed at the time of the game yet you pay extra on release day for them.

That is what I'm referring to, the free Dead Rising content barely scratches the surface, just a small example if you will.

That is obnoxious considering the price of games went up this generation. However as long as people are paying for the stuff they would be idiots to not charge for it. I can also see it like a small expansion pack that the programmers might have been working on simultaneously with the actual release. Whereas in the past it might have been released 2 months after the main game they are dropping it sooner now. Frequently it is also cheaper than a normal expansion pack for a game.

But ultimately, yes, pay maps on the same day as the game sucks and is something hopefully the consumers say no to.

edit: i just realized this is in the Dead Rising thread instead of the general 360 thread. Sorry for the threadjacking - i won't comment on this bit anymore unless it is brought up in the main 360 thread.

What a douchebag.

At one point, BB, CC, Walmart, etc. would get games days after release, so that was one of the few things EB/GS had going for it. That's not really the case anymore, especially with major releases.

I wonder if these arrogant Gamestop/EB managers and owners realize that unless they start ordering games to cover non pre-order sales they're going to be loosing a ton of business.

After the last lockup I played a little Street Fighter and Table Tennis to make sure that the system wasn't messed up. No problems at all. After that I deleted all of the demos and videos off of my HD, someone over at gamefaqs said that helps. I then tried Dead Rising again.

I played for about 45 minutes with no problems at all. I really didn't enjoy it much because I kept worrying about the lockups. After I died I reloaded my save from the beginning of the game. So far so good. After I left the security office the game locked up again.

This reminds me of the lock ups for Baseball 2k6, and having to clear the cache, etc. Still so far so good for me. Maybe its cause i pre ordered it....

of course now i just fucked up my save. Great game, horrible save system. I just wasted a few hours, after I died, i chose whatever option it gives you, to save and go back to title (since i was done playing, and had already saved in the bathroom earlier) now I'm back at New Game. geez.

Leechboy, I don't want to scare you but that pic is exactly what my old 360 started doing a few days before the red ring of death appeared.

And it is exactly what happened to mine as well. This is insane. Can't we pull together and get some kind of class action against MS for this crap? There is absolutely NO reason why some of us should be waiting on our 3rd unit because of the same problems over and over again.

From Eurogamer:
http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=66583

Capcom has said that Dead Rising will make it to Europe next month intact, with no cuts made to the version that came out in the USA yesterday.

"Dead Rising's brilliant violence has been completely preserved for European audiences," a spokesperson told Eurogamer. "No cuts have been made to the PAL version."

So far so good. I just want to go on record saying that the save system blows! I finally stopped playing...3 hrs of shit completed GONE. I guess that's what I get for being an idiot. I keep interpreting the save options incorrectly...:(
Poor Japanese tourists...
The opening video sequences are great! But I have to agree that the save system is terrible. But maybe it is because I stink at gameplay on game consoles. :(

I picked it up at Best Buy this afternoon. They had 25+ copies that I could see and I didn't have to to endure a pre-order sermon.

I'm not too thrilled with it so far. I kinda wish I had just stuck with the demo. Arrrgh, the cut scenes! I got to the first boss fight and I'm hating the fact that I have to use first person mode. This control scheme BLOWS for first person shooting.

Maybe it will get better. I just wanna kill zombies. No lockups so far.

What's the secret to getting the saves right? I haven't saved other than the very first save opportunity early in the game.

The save system in this game is pretty shitty. Getting back to the security room is a pain in the ass.

I ended up losing a great deal of progress because I ventured pretty far out, got stuck in a boss battle and then had to make my way back to save. :(

So far I've had no problem with the game locking up or any other issues.

I'm in the process now of figuring out what to do if your camera in the game runs out of battery power. Not sure where the hell I get batteries and I think running all over the place in the game looking fr a solution would be deadly so I'd rather look online.

You can get batteries in the camera shop. I think there's one right at the beginning of the 'mall' part (where the demo starts too).

I had the same save problem, I died in the first boss fight (I got bored and pretty much let him kill me, god the boss battle BLOWS). Now I'm back at the beginning and I really don't want to work my way back to the shitty boss battle. The crazy guy with the machine gun can HAVE the fucking food court. I just want to mow down zombies.

Finding the batteries was pretty easier. As stated they are just to the right as you exit the warehouse.

The lunatics in the courtyard are busting my balls. I tried taking a propane tank out there to help me but I got mowed down. I think I might try and avoid them until daylight and then the zombies will be less aggressive and that might make things easier on me.

I have played my 360 for about 2 hours since that shot was taken. Both disc games and arcade games. No problems at all. I haven't had the courage to fire up Dead Rising again. I don't need anymore stress tonight.

So, I am the only one here that has had any freezing problems so far? The gamefaqs messageboards are full of people with the same problem. Everyone has their own crazy ideas of how to fix the glitch. I will patienty wait until Capcom makes an announcment about the issue(hopefully). Wasn't there a baseball game that came out a few months ago with a similar freezing issue? Tell me where to sign up and I'm there . I JUST got my replacement system back 2 weeks ago and now have to start all over again with this new problem. It's unbelievable. Did they make you pay to fix/replace your system? I got some BS saying I just missed my warranty by a few weeks so I was forced to give them $98 to fix it. Then they tried to make me pay again today with this new problem feeding me that warranty garbage again. That's when I went off on the guy for not fixing it in the first place and was put on hold for a good 45 minutes. Then all of a sudden his supervisor magically discovers that I have a good 90 days left on my warranty that they forgot to file. Don't get me wrong I love the system and eveything, but M$ really needs to fix their customer service.

I just defeated the crazy evil clown. I didn't have any weapons at all so I started with doing a bunch of jump kicks, and that seemed to work. After walking around the area for a while I found some mannequin arms and legs, so I used those to beat the clown down, and I was actually able to defeat him just using that.

I must say though, the death of that clown is one of the most disturbing things I've ever seen in a video game. Now that was a satisfying death scene!

Even with all of that though, I do believe I totally screwed up. Out of nowhere my cases showed up on the screen, and they all went red saying I failed them, and the game was over. It asked if I wanted to continue, save and continue, or load, and I foolishly (I believe it was foolish, so correct me if I'm wrong) picked to continue. Does this mean that I can't actually beat the game now?

no weapons ... dam that must have been pure luck. i was watching my friend (who also got the game today) play that part and that clown just went wako with his dual chainsaws and his fire blowing, not only did he get killed but clown man "Adam" also was able to kill the two Japanese guys in the process

Naw, it was actually really, really simple. The key was to have a couple of the drinks from the food court right before the area where he's at, so that you can totally 100% replenish your life while fighting him. I had to do that twice in the fight with him. I don't imagine you'd need to do that if you actually had weapons. You just need to time your shots against him.

When the clown does the spinning chainsaw deal, just back off far away and let him take out any zombies that are close by. I actually loved when he did that! It's also useful to let him toss the balloons at you, then run towards him in order to let the balloon hit him instead, which stuns him. You can really get some good shots in on him at that time.

Just don't over think how to fight him, and just go straight for him. People seem to try to over think things like this.

And once again, his death is just about my favorite death in a video game of all time!

As for the guys in the jeep:

again, don't over think it. Go get the uzi if you want (I found it in the very middle of one of the fountains in the mall. It's a fountain that is sorta elevated, with steps all around it, not one of the ones that is flat on the ground) and run around after the jeep in the trees. The jeep will get stuck when it hits the trees, giving you all the time in the world to do whatever you want to the three guys inside with whatever weapons you have.

I have a quick question. Are youa ctually supposed to escort people back to teh security room or are they pretty much just thre to help you? I picked up the first two barricaded in and I have no idea where to take them. They are, however, helpful in getting rid of zombies.

Also, to reiterate, SAVE IN THE BATHROOMS. Check your maps. There is a save spot near most major events. After the first boss, there's one in the gym. There is also one right before him. It does suck that you only have one save slot. However, it doesn't suck that you can restart the game with your current stats. :-)

I loving the game, but hating the save system like everyone else. I think they were aiming for the same sort of system they used in the Resident Evil Outbreak series, where the save was merely an "extended pause". But those games were based on short scenarios so it made more sense there.

I think I've finally decided on a game plan. I'm going to concentrate on finishing the Cases on my first go-through, then worry about the extra stuff on future playthroughs. From what I gather, the game is designed to be played multiple times for completion, unless I misunderstood things. I know your levels and skills carry over, but what about items? I'm talking about keys in particular.

I love the way areas are dangerous in different ways. The supermarket is basically filled with unlimited health, but there are so few useful weapons there it's a death trap. Likewise, the home depot type store has a great selection of weaponry, but health items are hard to come by. The maintenance tunnels are a blast since you can drive over zombies in the car or truck with wild abandon. But if you abuse the vehicle too much and it car dies, you are SCREWED. You're pretty much surrounded by 1000s of zombies on every side with NO useful weapons to be found save an occasional shopping cart.

I hate to hear that the psychos in the courtyard respawn. That basically means there's no point to killing them. They are easy to avoid coming from the security room, but going back is a bitch, especially if you're escorting someone.

I wish there was an auto-aim for the guns, a la Grand Theft Auto. While I don't think it works well in that game, the same system would work wonders in this game for picking off zombies. As it stands, the handgun isn't much use for killing zombies unless you are a safe distance away or unless you have some sort of barricade like a counter between you. You get swarmed and all you have is a handgun, sayonara!

I also wish the escortees were more intelligent. They should be more like Ashley from Resident Evil 4, where she will instinctively duck when you aim a weapon near her. Considering the melee weapons aren't very precise to begin with, I hate just having to plow through them to save them from an onslaught.

DRG
08-10-06, 11:33 AM
The more I think about the save system, I suppose I understand what they're thinking. Essentially when you die they are giving you two options: load the last save point and lose all the progress you've made levelling since that save, or save all your levelling progress but start the game from scratch. That said, they should have still allowed multiple saves.

I just picked this up yesterday and I'm loving it. My only real gripe so far is that escorting survivors seems really difficult unless you're really close to the security room when you find the survivor. Maybe it's easier once you've leveled up enough, but right now it's too tough to protect the people following you while also making sure you don't get mowed down yourself.

As for the weapons, I'm glad that the demo didn't give away all the good ones. So far I think that the lawnmower is my favorite, but the propane tanks and giant umbrellas are also a lot of fun. I can't wait to hit the hardware store and see what they have there...

The plotline is really pretty good. There's a fair bit of cheesiness in some of the things the characters say and do, but so far the pacing of the plot (in terms of what is revealed and when) is very effective. On my first run through, I'm focusing on the main storyline, and then on future play-throughs I'll be worrying more about helping survivors and taking out psychopaths. I think the psychopaths might be my favorite part of the game. Without giving too much away, the one on the roller coaster and the one in the supermarket are very entertaining, and so is the family of gun nuts. There's also a non-zombie threat that I recently ran into, and I'm curious to see where that part of the story leads. I'm trying to keep it a little vague to avoid spoilers (I'm not reading any of the spoilers in this thread myself), but it's nice that there's more to the game than just zombies.

Not sure if that's just a typo, but it's the Y button that you press to get survivors to follow you. Of course, they tend to get attacked by zombies all too often, and then you have to go save them. I haven't used this feature much, but you can also target an area using the R trigger aiming mode and then hit Y to tell survivors to move towards that area. I'm with you though, I don't care much right now if the survivors get mowed down. In fact, one of the funniest moments I've seen involved a male survivor's death scene in which a female zombie straddled him 69-style and started chowing down on his crotch. rotfl

I think BrentLumkin makes a good point. In the demo, I didn't get much sense of danger or a real feeling that the odds were against me. But in the full game, the time requirements, number of zombies, and the stress of helping survivors gives it a much better feel and a lot more tension. There's still a good deal of humor, but you've got more of a sense of purpose in the full game.

Still, I'd recommend renting first, especially if you didn't really enjoy the demo. It seems quite possible to beat the initial 72-hour mode within a couple of days. For some people, that single play through might be enough, in which case a purchase might be a waste. But for me, there's enough there to warrant at least a few runs through the entire game. You can't possibly save all the survivors, beat all the psychopaths, find all the weapons, and get all the achievements in a single run through the game. The question is whether the game grabs you enough to want to play through the whole thing multiple times. If so, it's well worth a purchase, but I don't know if you can figure that out just by playing the demo version. Just my two cents.

That would've netted you some good PP photo points if you caught it. :D
Unfortunately it was a non-interactive mini cutscene, otherwise it definitely would've been a great photo-op. :)

I think the demo is enough to go by when deciding to rent it or buy it. If you like the demo, and want to kill a ton of zombies while following a storyline, and doing different objectives, then buy the game. If you played the demo and thought it sucked, or just thought it was cool but you don't really want to buy it, then I say don't even bother renting it - just play the demo over and over again.

Almost every source for reviews is giving this game a solid 80-90%. I don't believe I've seen anything less so far. That tells you that it's a perfectly fine game, great even, with one or two little problems that are easy enough to overcome so that it doesn't really get in the way of the overall enjoyment of the game. If ever there was a new and original game that you knew what you were getting into when you buy it, this is that game.

I think somebody screwed up on that site. Based on all the information I've read, the US version is uncut and that is the same version that the UK is getting. Rumor has it that the Japanese version is cut though. No dismemberment.

Maybe it was hyped like that because it was apparently banned in Germany for being too violent/gory?

I can live with the missions and the survivor crap but the boss battles in this game are gonna drive me over the edge.

The 2nd meeting with Carlito is kicking my ass. I have 3 things of OJ, an uzi and a handgun. I think I may be leaving myself exposed for too long but it never seems like I get much damage done to him before he nails me.

This one took me a while, and here's what worked for me. I had 3 OJs, plus a katana and the sub-machine gun. At the start of the fight, I walked up the steps and went left to the sports store. I dropped an OJ and picked up the skateboard. For a while I just skated around to distract Carlito while Brad took shots at him. If you're lucky, you can charge at Carlito while on the board (keep weaving to make sure he misses if he takes a shot at you) and run into him to do a little damage. You can also get off the skateboard if you get close to him and swipe the katana (or another melee weapon) at him for some good damage. He may run away and drop a grenade behind him. If he does that, hang back and take a few shots at him. I found that strategy to work pretty well - get close to him on the board, hop off the board, take a swipe, wait for him to run, take a few shots, then skate away. Keep an eye on Brad's health - if he dies, you fail the case and can't finish future cases - but keep in mind that he's shooting at Carlito too. He can do a lot of damage if you keep Carlito distracted. Good luck, it's much tougher than the first Carlito battle.

MasterofDVD: I thought pressing "Y" told the survivors to follow you. Have you been pressing "X"? :-)

Only complaint I have is that one of my followers got stuck in the fountain wher I found the uzi. Ugh! He would not jump out! I also found out later that you can give the survivors food and weapons. :-)

I don't know why, but that struck me as f'ing hillarious.

Im picking up my game tomorrow from Gamerush. I wish GR would get their games in on launch day instead of 3 days later!

Chances are they already have it in. If you are calling, they will tell you it comes out on Friday (they say this about every game). That is the rental release date. Tell them you are buying a copy and have them check the shelf if necessary. Oh, and don't bother pre-ordering from GR...if you aren't there the minute it comes in, there is a good chance that they will sell it to the first person that walks in the door.

My friend that lives 30 min away called his local Blockbuster and they told him they have it, but can't rent it out until tomorrow. So for the hell of it, I called mine, and they said they had 1 (out of 5) left available for rent. I asked if they could hold it and they said no, since people have been calling all day for it. When I got there, the game wasn't on the shelf, so I asked and they had the last copy behind the desk. Too bad I have to wait until tonight to play.

But is Brad even doing damage to Carlito at all? I wore that SOB down to no health, as far as I could tell on my TV, and then ran out of bullets. I ran around while Brad shot at him. Brad plugs him for a bit and before I know it Brad and the Professor are dead and I'm fucked yet again!

Edited to add:
The last time I fight Carlito was a freaking close call. He was aiming at me as I aimed at him and whoever was shot next was dying. The skateboard method didn't work for me at all so I went into the jewelry store behind him and took shots when I could. The medicine run mission was thankfully a MUCH easier boss battle but it was a really close call getting there, fighting and get back in the alloted time. I had to turn the game off for the night after that!

Here is a little update on my situation....

I decided not to play Dead Rising until they made a patch for it. So tonight I decided to play a little DOA 4. The game freezes 4 times. So then I tried Burnout. After 10 minutes that froze. Now I'm getting pissed.

So I turn off my system and then turn it back on. 4 red lights. Now I am really pissed. It happens every time I turn it on. I go around the back of my av rack and check the connections. The AV cable wasn't plugged all the way into the system. I thought something was wrong with that way back in December when I first hooked the system up. I plug the AV unit back into the system, all the way this time. I unplug/replug the power cable and then reboot the whole thing.

The system booted up with no problems at all. I put Dead Rising in to test out the freezing. I played for 2 hours with no freezing problems. After the I played DOA4 for about an hour. No problems there.

Was the loose AV cable my problem all along? I hope it was. What does the 4 red lights mean? I know 3 is the "Ring of Death".

All I care about now is the fact that I can finally play Dead Rising. Knock on wood.

This forum is a hardcore DVD/movie site. It should be expected that most people on this forum would have a HDTV, but that is definitely not true in real life. There are plenty of people, including adults, that still have a standard TV. I am 27 and do not own a HDTV. I plan to buy one within the next few years, but it is not a priority to me. HDTV won't be commonplace in the household for probably another 3 or 4 years at least. A lot of people don't see any real need for a HDTV, and they won't upgrade until it is absolutely mandatory (ie standard TVs stop being made or HDTVs become dirt cheap). DVD players didn't become commonplace until they became dirt cheap.

According to MS own site, 3 is a hardware failure and 4 is a video cable problem, usually not plugged in correctly.

I found a restroom in the fitness place so at least I can pick up from THERE rather than from the security room. One thing I do appreciate is the regeneration system. There seems to be plenty of food items to restore your health... that's nice.

Is anyone else having a difficult time gauging how far away the zombies are? There are times when I swing and miss, and other times when they seem to be just as far when I missed, they grab me.

I realize we have very mature members here compared to other forums. Personally an HDTV is on my wishlist but very low on the list right now. I had a flat tube TV long before most people had heard of them but I'm a little slower when shopping for a HDTV.

It's so hard to save people in this game that I've pretty much given up until my next time playing. The bosses and missions are keeping me plenty busy for the time being.

I've read that from many people...that the first time through, just chop zombie flesh and level up, take some pics...whatever. Then once you're a little stronger start over.

It's kinda like Groundhog Day for Frank isn't it?

You have to take them to the security room. I don't think you can use the maintenance doors until you find a key. You just have to bring the survivors through the mall. You have to go through that door in Paradise Plaza that goes to the warehouse, go through the warehouse, back up to the roof, and through the airduct.
