Sons & Daughters has been offically cancelled.
According to Fred Goss's myspace blog, the show was cancelled around May 13. I just read about it yesterday. I'm sure most won't care about this (as the ratings showed), but I thought the show was fantastic by the last few (aired) episodes.

I stuck with it and began to enjoy it. So many characters to introduce, it took a couple of episodes before you could care. I would have stuck with it for a while longer at least.

I thought it really hit it's stride in the last few episodes, but I was a fan since the start. Too bad in this day and age shows aren't given time to find an audience.

I enjoyed it, but they really screwed the pooch on the promotion. Associating it with Lorne Michaels wasn't a good idea, nor hammering home the unrehearsed concept, but mostly, the show wasn't really a "ha ha" comedy. It was entertaining, and it was interesting, and there was humor in the situations, but it was rarely laugh-out-loud funny. Promoting it as this groundbreaking new exercise in hilarity killed it before it got off the ground.

It also didn't help that the show (perhaps more accurately the network) invited comparisons to Arrested Development. The first couple of episodes were pretty bad (particularly compared to expectations), but I saw improvement before I stopped watching.

Yeah, cuz networks NEVER start a show mid-season. I mean, it's not like Sons & Daughters premiered in February or anything. [/sarcasm]

Was flipping through my channel listings the other day and noticed that S&D is going to air on Universal HD starting next Sunday. No new eps or anything, but it will be fun to watch them again anyway.

I freaking LOVED this show.
10 episodes aired, and there's supposedly an 1th unaired episode as well...

Apparently there will not be a DVD. Licensing of the music sent the costs too high. I guess replacing the music would have been to expensive as well.
They would have to sell more copies than there are people who know the show was ever on the air.

I wonder why they continue to use licensed music that costs too much? I guess they were expecting this show to be a big hit and recoup the costs.

You know, I never liked the theme song ("Surrender"), I didn't ever feel that it really captured the tone of the show well at all.
I did, however, love the Grateful Dead piece they used at the start of every episode and would be sad if that wasn't included.

I don't see much to compare to Arressted Development. If anything, it felt a bit like Undeclared or Freaks and Geeks type humor. I knew nothing about this series until I came across it on UPN HD and really liked it. I've only seen 4 or 5 episodes, but I really enjoyed it. It's a smart, witty, funny show. No surprise it's being cancelled.

I've started watching this on Universal HD as well, and I also can't see any comparisons to Arrested Development. It's just a totally different tone to me. I've enjoyed watching these eps. I meant to give this show a try when it first aired, but I want to say that it was in a bad timeslot for me or something. Anyway, I've enjoyed it, but I'm not surprised it was cancelled. It seems like shows like this usually are on life support from the time they are premiered.
