Anniversary Edition of The Prisoner Mega Set 7/26/06

From Davisdvd:

"A&E Home Video will re-release The Prisoner: Mega Set in a new 40th Anniversary Edition on July 25th. The ten-disc set will include all 17 classic episodes presented uncut, fully restored and remastered. This new set will include the new 50-page limited edition companion guide "Hidden Mysteries Surrounding The Prisoner," a complete series guide with a detailed color fold-out map of The Village. As with the previous release, extras will include: ultra-rare original footage of the 1966 location shooting, with commentary by Bernie Williams; The Prisoner Video Companion bonus program; rare alternate version of the "The Chimes of Big Ben;" rarely seen "Foreign File Cabinet" footage and textless intro & outro; original broadcast & promo trailers; original production and promo materials; still galleries; interactive map of The Village; Prisoner trivia. Retail is $139.95."

So the only new feature is the companion guide?

Sounds like it. Though I wonder if the "restored and remastered" mentioned is something NEW since the last release. In any event, I'm absolutely delighted with the current set of sets I have. They have to do something about the MSRP though.

I have the R2 version. I don't remember anything being wrong with the video even when converted to NTSC.

This is probably just a re-packaging of the current discs, much like their new Monty Python release. Also possible that the discs will be in slim cases like the Python set as well.

I don't think anyone who already owns "The Prisoner" needs to bother upgrading unless they want to pay $140 for a 50-page booklet.

You've got that right. I was all set to jump on this since I held off buying the current release, but at that price, I don't think so. Maybe there'll be some good deals from places clearing out the current release.

It's about $84 at DDD, which is still kinda high but a bit more tempting.

I'll have to see how this is packaged before even considering. And that MSRP is nuts -- this may have to wait for the DDD 20% off sale before Christmas.

I assume that this new release will be in thinpacks. However, if they put that book within the box, that will essentially nullify much of the space savings.

I don't have the current release, so will probably end up getting this one.

Me too. It's about time to retire that stack of VHS tapes anyway.

Already have the old set but I can't find anything on the accompanying book. I'd like to get my hands on that unless there's a similar guide out there already in publication.

This will probably in a smaller package. Nothing elaborate like in the shape of Rover or something like that?

I wonder if it's the same book which came with the Region 2 35th Anniversary disc?

This takes me back. Sci-Fi Channel ran a marathon of all 17 episodes and I stayed up for 23 hours to edit out the commercials while I was recording them. That's 6 hours of commercials!!! I was pretty damn sleepy (I'd already been awake for 10 hours when the marathon started).

I'm pretty damn happy with the DVD releases, but I kept my VHS copies just on principle.

Maybe it will come in one those floating ball things that's always stopping people from escaping from the Village.

Re: Anniversary Edition of The Prisoner Mega Set 7/26/06

Thread necro.

With all the re-releases of this show on DVD, including a complete set available for $24.95 at Amazon, why do the older releases that had just 3-4 eps each still go for $20 used? Are there extras on those older sets that weren't brought over?
