Intimately Radiohead
Updated 08:43 PDT Mon, May 01 2006
Radiohead has announced a U.S. tour in addition to its summer festival dates.
The performances will take place in smaller than usual venues, and will feature appropriately scaled down staging and lighting design, creating a suitably intimate environment for the first ever airings of several new songs.
The theatre / amphitheatre run begins with a two-night run June 1 in Philadelphia. In fact, all of the band's tour stops are two-nighters with the exception of the June 17 set at Bonnaroo.
Set lists for the shows will draw heavily on the newer material the band has been working on over the past months.
The U.S. dates will be preceded by a similar tour of Europe and the U.K., followed by a string of U.K. / Europe festival dates, including the already sold out V festival Aug. 19 & 20, with others TBA.
There are no plans for a Radiohead album release any time in 2006.

they usually play at the greek theater or hollywood bowl. i don't see how that is so intimate nor a change of venue... but ok.

They (or in this the tour manager) owes us Washingtonians a show - since the last time they came round, a torrential rain cancelled both Bull Run VA shows.

I was thinking the same thing. Let them play three nights at the Wiltern or maybe Gibson (formrely Universal) Amphitheater: THAT's a more 'intimate' show to me than the Greek.

What is "the theater" at Madison Square Garden?

from the Madison Square Garden website
In and Around the Garden (http://www.thegarden.com/inandaroundgarden_venues.html)
Also located in the heart of Manhattan on Seventh Avenue between 31st and 33rd Streets, is The Theater at Madison Square Garden. It has been the venue for annual family shows and theatricals, the NFL and NBA Drafts, CBS Television's Fall Premiere, Con Edison's Shareholder Meetings, Product Launches for Infinity and Intel, Oxford Health Plans Award Ceremony, Corporate Employee Meetings, college graduations, and religious conferences.

I think once the album comes out (in 2007?) - they'll come back (they better) to more US cities. These elitist tours are becoming old and shitty.

I saw them play at a pavillion-type place in Columbia, Md. years ago when they were touring for the newest album. I'm sure they've toured since but that show was really close to DC.

got GA for MSG Theater for the 14th, just luck though, the site was open on one computer and still closed on the other for some reason. Also might be going to the 13th, depends if my friend's ticket request form goes through.
that's some bullshit with ticketmaster now with the banning you if you refresh, basically locks you out of getting tickets, luckily I have 2 seperate ip's at work to use, you figure ticketmaster could find a better way to handle a gaterush than just to ban you, there's no warning of this either on the page, bet a lot of people are pissed off about that.
"We limit the rate of web page requests that can be made by individual users in any given time period. Your web page requests have exceeded these limits and your access has been temporarily disabled. We impose these limits to protect the web site from automated programs, as part of our efforts to promote fair access to tickets. Please allow several minutes and then try again. "

damn, I'll have to try to get philly tickets tommorow, as I lost out on both shows today. Couldn't get Sonic Youth tickets for CBGB's either. There needs to be some kind of investigation on ticketmaster, and their relationships with scalpers.

There is no investigation needed. They admit to selling blocks of tickets to scalpers. They have a monopoly and are using it to rape the customers.
BTW, how many refreshes does it take to get you banned? If you don't sit there and hit F5 repeatedly you will never get tickets.

I would estimate around 4 or 5 times quickly when the site opened, it definately didn't take much. I don't know what their rate is set to ban you, but it's not set fairly at all. What do they expect people to do while their site is timing out and you are trying to get in exactly when tickets are going on sale.
I actually almost lost the tickets in the checkout process, it errored out on the first process, luckily when I used the back button I was able to process the charge again successfully.

Nevermind, I hope I get lucky tomorrow
It does seem like it's around 5 refreshes quickly. You can test for yourself just go one of the pages with ticket information and hit refresh like 5 times and you get bumped out to the main listing of tickets and can't get back to a specific sale date info page.

I was just testing the temporary ban thing and the first time it took 5 very rapid refreshes and then I was unable to get back to the page for 3-5 minutes (I wasn't timing it.) Then once I could get back to a show description page I hit refresh over 30 times and wasn't locked out. Do they only temporarily block you the first time?

Oh, I know. I like Detroit. Just taking a cheap shot at it, for a cheap laugh, that's all.
BTW, what great metro area are you near? Is that an Okie designation in your profile? :)
OKC = OK Computer, hence the reason I'm posting in a Radiohead thread.
Okay, not really. :) Yeah, I'm an Okie, and proud of it. But I'm sure we haven't done any better than Detroit in terms of Radiohead tour stops. I don't know if they've ever even played here, and if they have, it had to have been in the early days. Hell, I even made the 450-mile trip down to Houston to see 'em when they played there three years ago--that was as close as they got.

That sucks dude, sorry to hear that.
I agree about them being unavailable even at 10am on the dot, but I did get lucky. I of course like everybody tried at 10, and kept trying. The first time even it came back with no tickets for event. WTF
So, anyways kept trying and eventually like almost 8 minutes after got tickets to the Monday show. They're not good seats, but I"m just happy to get in the place, since I've never seen a show at the pavillion and haven't seen radio head in a few years.
I'm curious how many actual seats went onsale, consider I guess from there the sounds there was a presale etc. There couldnt' have been many, that's for sure.

I love Radiohead, they are my favorite band and I really want to go to Bonnaro, but I went last year and I was just soooo uncomfortable. Damn!
I really wish they would just play in Atlanta or Birmingham. I mean Jesus Christ! If I want to see them I have to fork over 200+ bucks to see them. I have already seen Death Cab, Bright Eyes and Ben Folds, so those aren't huge attractions for me.
The Radiohead show in Atlanta in 2003 was incredible and I guess I just can't wait to see them again.

I forgot to come back in here and report on the show.
Great, great show. there were about 7-8 songs I had not heard, but I'm told and seeing looking at other setlists they weren't entirely new. I would have actually preferred a tad more I was familiar with, and looking at the setlist Mon and Sun, would have preferred the Sun show, but I can't complain.
The only other time I saw them was back in Grant Park in Chicago a few years ago. that show was huge, so this was a much more mellow, and laid back show. The fans seemed to be into it, and they played a nice long set over 2.5 hours from what I recall.
My seats were terrible, last row in the building, but at least it wasn't that big of place. I didn't take my camera thinking they might not allow them, but did see many, and found some decent pics here and there on the web.

I saw the 2 shows in Chicago - they were just fantastic! There wasn't a lot of overlap between the setlists, so we heard 39 different songs including the premiere of a new one ("All I Need").
The second night, "Airbag" opened and "The Tourist" closed. Awesome!
