Revenge of the Nerds being remade

Even during this recent trend of remakes, I did not expect to hear this.
LOS ANGELES, California (Hollywood Reporter) -- Kyle Newman has signed on to direct "Revenge of the Nerds," a remake of the seminal 1984 teen comedy.
The project is being developed by Fox Atomic, the new young-adult genre division of Fox Filmed Entertainment. The studio is eyeing a summer start date.
The film reteams Newman with scribe Adam F. Goldberg, who is rewriting the latest "Nerds" incarnation.
The pair worked together on Newman's upcoming "Fanboys," which will be distributed by the Weinstein Co. Newman also penned the animated children's comedy "Gnomes."

The pair is currently finishing up Fanboys. Considering the level of geekiness that is currently consuming that film, I think we should feel safe regarding this remake.
To tell you the truth, I was more estatic hearing that Savage Steve Holland would be writing and directing the Porky's remake.

Yeah, it really doesn't need to be remade. How much do you want to bet the nerds won't be that nerdy? I wouldn't be surprised if they included some girl as one of the nerds who is obviously attractive, but because she wears glasses and doesn't spend a lot of time on her hair, she's an unpopular outcast. I doubt they'll still have them join an all-black fraternity, because God forbid someone might get offended.

According to a report in the Chicago Sun-Times, Los Angeles Police Department detective Robert Lewis said a group of people -- including [NFL defensive back] Manning -- attacked a man in a Denny's after teasing him for working on a laptop computer.
"The group [of jocks] began by making comments that the victim looked like a geek or a nerd," Lewis said, according to the Sun-Times.

I rented the original "Revenge of the Nerds" from Netflix not too long ago, and it was another of those movies from my youth that held up a lot better than I expected it to.
But I guess they will eventually have to remake everything.
