sony dvp-s530d help!!!

hey guys i have sony dvp-s530d dvd player. it has recently started to act up. i believe it has a problem with disc tray or power. when i power on the unit, sometimes it just powers right back off after the tray makes a noise. other times it will power on, tray opens, then powers off, or it will take the disc, then a few moments later it powers off. when it powers off it wont power back on, the light will turn green then back to red.

i have tried leaving it unplugged overnight etc, but i cannot figure this out. any help is appreciated!

Sounds like a failing switch or solenoid. I had a Sony laserdisc player with similar symptoms.

The 530 is a rather old player, perhaps it is time to upgrade.
