"You always say that"
"No, that's Paul Lewiston"

BTW : Did anyone else catch DEK's obligatory shout-out to the Pacific Salmon? It was
I can't decide if that was a joke or if he really thought he needed to get the message out again

Was Syd the fourth or fifth person Denny shot? Who were the others? I remember the homeless guy and the child killer.
Anyway, very funny episode. Really wasn't expecting Denny to shoot Syd again. And the jibberjabber judge was great.
The Brad chracter just reminds me so much of an old classmate. Like the push-over type.
And I didn't really get the guest star comment - well, if she's just a guest star, then is Melissa a "special" guest star?
Finally, the racial-profiling case was pretty interesting, but I thought NV was the only state that was trying to allow the police to take IDs? And while I didn't agree with the circumstances of him being asked to show ID, I'm not sure if I would have let the guy go on the fighting with the cop charge.

Proof that if you give Shatner something to work with he can deliver. And it is worth mentioning that together, Spader & Shatner are the best comedy team on TV and is it me or does it seem like they are moving away from the whole Denny-has-Alzheimer's thing? It was nice having the "preach" quotient dialed down a little bit and letting the characters drive the episode. I'll take quality guest actors like Peter MacNichol any day over stunt casting actors who don't bring a whole lot to the table. Even Brad Chase wasn't too annoying.

Consdering the nature of all the self-referencing in the episode, I'm surprised when MacNichol was going off on not having any life, Denny didn't say something like, "Well that's because you spend your Friday nights solving math problems."

Great episode
An interesting note I came upon:

Edit: It explains the "Here we are...with old footage" line.
An interesting note I came upon:
This episode was originally intended to air as episode 18 of Season 1. When the season was cut short due to the success of Grey's Anatomy, the last 5 episodes of the season were held back until Season 2. For unknown reasons, Race Ipsa wasn't aired at the beginning of the season but instead held until near the end of Season 2, with a completely reworked story to eliminate the old characters and integrate the new ones.
Edit: It explains the "Here we are...with old footage" line.

Actually, it explains the Brad Chase story line. I thought it was weird that Brad would be obsessing about his kissing on a first date the very next episode after having the break-up/ attempt to get back with the Vagina girl just last week. Sometimes it seems like some of the cast shoot their scenes entirely separately and then these secondary story lines are just edited in later when convenient.
It also explains why Alan was doing two cases at once, which never happens on the show. Obviously there were two separate story lines, one old (with Kerry Washington), and one new (Denny's most recent shooting episode, complete with VP jokes).

Just caught it on my Tivo yesterday. Am I the only one who thought the Trout magazine was a wink at Ally McBeal viewers? (MacNicol was "the Fish", wasn't he?)

Oh, that's right! Man, my memory is not like it used to be.
Whatever happened to what's-his-face's daughter? The druggie? Figured she'd come back as the love interest for Brad.
