A multi-part, multilingual Euro-wide criss-crosser about life on and around the eponymous high-speed Lisbon-Paris train, "Sud Express" is a heartwarming and thought-provoking item that fuses politics with lyricism and intimacy into a quietly compelling vision of a Europe whose much-heralded togetherness is still more economic than interpersonal. Rich with scripting, thesping and editing virtues that more than outweigh its odd story lapses and sometimes overwrought political correctness, pic should chug nicely into fests, while its low-sentiment handling of the hot topic of immigration deserves arthouse interest in a variety of Euro territories.
