Just finished playing the demo for this game, so sweet, you’re a cop looking for a serial killer in a grisly realistic env. - lots of bludgeoning transients with objects not primarily designated as weapons (a.k.a "die at the hand of my rustily nailed 2x4, hobo junkies!"). It’s like a cross between Resident Evil and Manhunt. I'm gonna get myself a copy for PC, methinks. Anyone played the full game? How is it? Demo is here: http://www.condemnedgame.com/

It was the best launch title on the 360 and still one of my favorites for the system.
Brilliant game and they are already hard at work on a sequel.

You betcha we've played it, and I'm going to have to agree with Corvin on the best launch title (that I've played). Both reviewers here rated it Highly Recommended. (http://www.videogametalk.com/read.php?ID=300). And review #2 (http://www.videogametalk.com/read.php?ID=325)

I want to pick this up for the PC, it was one of the games I am most interested someday when the 360 drops in price, now I don't have to wait, except I will probably wait til the game hits $20.

Well, given those reviews I'm gonna pick a copy up after work. That and that I've played the demo 3 times now. So good. I love that creepy nebulous weird Japanesehorroresque style it has. I heard some gab about the PC Condemned having extras the 360 version doesn't, anyone know anything about that?

For those picking it up, do yourself a favor and ditch the guns. All melee baby. Granted there aren't a lot, and there are no ammo replenishments, but they give you enough to get by. Sure melee makes the game harder, but it actually makes the game creepier since all the combat is close quarters.
This is one game where the gamerpoints on the 360 make sense, especially the "All Melee" award. Forcing you to get into the game and atmosphere even more.

yup, if it wasn't for the first gun I picked up (and forgot to melee with) I'd have had that award :(

The first chapter? You start with a gun and have to flip it around to use it as a melee weapon. You can just replay that chapter to get it.

Well, you might have to do more than the one level, but probably not the whole game for the melee award. Did you use the butt of each gun as a weapon? If not follow up chapter 1 with chapter 7. If you still don't have it hit up level 4. All the weapons can be found on those three boards. That will give you the Gold Melee Master Award- 50pts -(beating the game with only Melee weapons). There is also a Melee Mayhem Award- 20pts- Which you get for using EVERY item in the game.
You will have to play all three of those again and USE every weapon to get the Firearm Freedom Award. - 20pts -

Ooooo. That all sounds fun. I think I'll probably play through Condemned more than once, I was up half the night playing it yesterday. I like my pistol, though, so didn't play all melee. Still, the most satisfying moments are the deep crunching connections of the big weapons like the sledgehammer.

I finished Condemned this weekend, now I'm playing through again, trying for the alt. ending. I keep looking at random objects in the office and wanting to bash co-workers over the head with them....

I just bought a 360, less than a week ago, and it's the main game I've been playing. It's a great game and I'm on Chapter 5. I have been using guns, but I plan to play through the game one or two more times - I will definitely go through using melee weapons one of those times, in order to get the achievement.

Aha! You = smart. I hadn't thought about that.... I actually typed wrong, meant "the extra scenes" not "the other ending" (though I want that too) because you get extra if you get all the metal pieces and stuff, right? I thought maybe the extra footage would help explain the ending.

Ahhh the propaganda reports. They'll explain a little more into the story of Condemned...

Do you know what you get if you complete Condemned without using any guns? Is it just a badge or is there any extra play/scenes?

no extra scenes...just an achievement on the 360 which probably translated to a badge on PC.

The satisfaction of completing the game with only beat downs isn't enough? :)

Heh, no, I want stuff! Lots of stuff! Actually, for Condemned the satisfaction isn't quite as satisfactory, as I swear I only used the pistol on the first level and the shotgun like three times in the game. I'm better at melee anyway, my aim sucks.

When it went into FPS mode I kinda lost interest. Glad you guys are enjoying it. I think I'm just getting sick of all the FPS games, especially cause nothing seems to rival Call of Duty 2 for me...

It's not a FPS game. Sure it is in first person perspective and there are guns, but that doesn't necessarily make it a shooter.

Yeah, I agree that Condemned isn't an FPS, but I guess it could be if you were really, really, really good with your ammo.

I still need to get my last 5 achivements. 3 of them I got glitched out of. :(
I have the silver bird award for each level meaing that I found every darn bird in the game. But I didn't get the Gold Bird award.
Also, I found every single piece of metal in the game, and didn't get the 3rd or 4th reports. I got the 1st and 2nd much later then people stated they did as well.
I used the gun a few times, so I have to go through the game again to get the melee gold award. I got the other two melee awards.

I got thirty out of fifty achievements, during my first play through. I plan to play it again, in order to find all of the birds (I got bronze awards in every level, except for Chapter 7 - I found them all in that level) and the metal pieces (I found all of them in the second last level, but only one per level in any of the earlier ones.) I'm also going to try to go through with just using melee combat.

Yep. Not a glich, per se, but a poor programming choice. If you go back through a level and get 2 birds and 3 metal that is your new save game. It doesn't matter if you got all the birds on your previous attempt, your last save is now with 2 birds for that level. Once you reload a chapter the game doesn't see that 5 birds you already have, it sees/sets it to zero. It doesn't seem to know what your previous attempts had.
Kinda hard to explain, but the only way to know for sure is to go through every board and make sure you get EVERY bird and EVERY metal at the same time. That way it saves and sees you have them when you finish the game. No way around it. Same thing happened to me.

Ugh.. what a pain... The only thing I could think that happened then, if that is the case. Was dying in the middle of a chapter and continuing on from the last save point.
That's why I was looking for a save game that had them all to get those achivements. I don't think it can be done though. The one I had found had spotty achivements and didn't get everything.
I guess I should just work through the game again. Shouldn't be too bad since I beat it once. Though that was a couple months ago. Now it will be like playing for the first time all over.

I'm glad for it, but also annoyed. You should be able to understand each individual story in a series, not have to look at the whole thing to understand the pieces. The whole thing should just give you more insight into the individual pieces, not be necessary for their explanation... anyway... I guess it's all about marketing. What will the next one be called? Condemned: Criminal Future...
