Problem Playing Newer DVD's on older Deck
Does anybody know why certain Newer Movies do not play on older DVD Decks?
I have a 8 year old Marantz DVD810 deck and (2, so far) movies have not been able to load. "Flight Plan" and "Sky High". Marantz is saying that I may have this problem more often in the future. I really like my deck and hate to have to replace it. Anybody have similar experiences and know of a solution?
Are there are movies that I should also avoid?
Do you think that I will have this problem with other new movies?
Thank You!!

Sounds like your player has trouble with ARcoSS copy protection (this method of protection basically puts bad sectors on the disc, which cause ripping programs to fail). They are both Disney titles, I believe, and both have Sony's ARcoSS protection.
Aside from a firmware upgrade, if it is a ARcoSS problem, you are likely out of luck unfortunately.
I don't know if a list of all ARcoSS titles is available anywhere, I did a quick search and didn't come up with anything.

That's justification for making illegal copies if those will play on that player. I can always tell what discs have this copy protection crap because my player will display "SEARCH" about 5 times before starting the movie. Way to screw over the paying customers while just causing a temporary inconvenience for the pirates.
