This is release # 5! But hey, if you don't have this movie, at least you have choices....

Already have the 2-disc release. That one's pretty useless.

Oh fuck a pig! When will it all end for them?

I imagine the DVD producers have an ongoing bet with the DVD producers for Anchor Bay...

Damn! It's been 10 years since ID4 was released? Seems like just yesterday.

Wow, another repackaging of this title. Maybe there will be an image upgrade? But then, as has been said before, I'm perfectly happy with my Five Star Edition. Useless.

As a side note, does anyone else sort of miss the Five Star line? It was usually a mark of quality and extensive supplements. Sure, Fox has done good work without the labeling, but I liked the design and the "mission statement" of it.

I'm shocked it's not called the "Whoop E.T.'s Ass Edition".

I'm starting to think Fox secretly aspires to be Sony Jr. Headed in the right direction if that's the case.

I got love for Independence Day, but this is one of the worst excuses for a re-release I have seen. Based on the information at DVDActive, there is nothing different between this and the single-disc and the Limited Edition. Same two versions of the movie, same two commentaries. A 10th anniversary release is a fine idea, but create something unique. Already have the 2-disc Collector's Edition, so definitely will not bother with this.

They have shown it on TV from time to time too -- and I have looked at parts here and there when its on -- like you said still holding up.

I have the 2-disk collectors - so no more for me.

These repackagings are no big deal.

All they're doing is essentially re-promoting the title by releasing a "new" edition that isn't really new. It gets the title back in the new release section of stores, and that leads to more sales. It's like the way Disney builds up demand for their animated classics, but a little different in that the movie is always available one way or another. It's much cheaper to do this than release a title for the first time, since they have to pay for a transfer, produce supplements, and author a new disc. Of course, if you have any of the other editions, there's no reason to buy this one.

So is this going to be like the one i saw at Best Buy in the "Will Smith 2-pack"?

With a huge Will Smith (and only Will Smith) head plastered on the cover.

But does this movie really need to be re-promoted 5 times? This is still one of the biggest blockbusters ever. Not a title people have forgotten I don't think.

Not a big deal really - re-packaging for a new promotional push happens all the time with paperbacks, for example.

Fox expected you to leave your logic at the door when this movie was in theaters, they figure why not the same at the stores?

Yeah, but this is Fox repromoting it, but it still counts I guess. Please, for crying out loud, how many times does a movie like this need a DVD release?

It's so damn ridiculous.
