Setting up the home theater in my new house

I'm moving into a new place and want to not have any wires going around so I wanted to try to "bounce" the sound off the walls more then trying to run under carpet/around the edges/etc. Here's a layout of the living room (with the connected dining room/kitchen area):

I'm going to be putting in a loveseat and sofa at a 90 degree angle to each other in front of a entertainment center so we'll be relatively close to the area (meaning I'm getting a plasma tv eventually lol)

These are the speakers I need to place:
For Front L and R:
NHT VT-2.4s
48" H x 7.82" W x 18" D
For Front Center:
NHT Supercenter
5.5"H x 16"W x 8"D
For L and R rears:
NHT SuperOnes
11.65"H x 7.25"W x 8.5"D
For Center Rear:
I couldn't remember the name of it so it's a bit smaller then the front center.

I was think of maybe stacking the rear speakers on top of the front L and Rs and angling them away so they hit the walls and bounce back? And just maybe getting rid of the "6" in the 6.1 altogether? Any other ideas?

This won't work, you'll get a convoluted sound mess when the surrounds become active.

Generally speaking, yes.

Your room is very tough to work with, when you think of surround sound you need to think box, ie., keep the sound inside a boxed in area.

That looks like the dilemma I have. The living room is adjacent to the dining room/kitchen with no real room division. It's simply one large space with the furniture being the only real room divider. I keep scratching my head trying to think of what I can do and if it's worth putting money into.

If you can't find a wall to mount your rears - use the ceiling.
