Rate TV Networks

I thought this would be an interesting thread. What you do is rate (grade system) each network based on their programming. I'll list the one's I can think of off the top of my head along with some of their more notable shows. Now, I'm not totalling familiar with a few of these like UPN, WB, Showtime and Cinemax and if I missed any other popular shows, please post 'em

ABC
According to Jim, Boston Legal, Commander and Chief, Desperate Housewives, Extreme Makeover, Grey's Anatomy, Lost

CBS
CSI franchises, Ghost Whisperer, NCIS, Numbers, Survivor, Two and a Half Men, The Unit, Without a Trace

Fox
American Idol, Bones, House, The Simpsons, 24

NBC
The Apprentice, ER, Law & Order franchises, The Office, Scrubs

WB/UPN
America's Next Top Model, Gilmore Girls, Girlfriends, One Tree Hill, Related, Smallville, Supernatural, 7th Heaven

FX
Black White, Nip Tuck, Over There, Rescue Me, The Shield, Thief

USA
The Dead Zone, Monk, WWE Monday Night RAW, The 4400, Nashville Star

Cinemax
???

Showtime
Dead Like Me, Huff, The L Word, Weeds

HBO
Big Love, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Real Time with Bill Mahr, Rome, Six Feet Under, The Sopranos

Anyways, here's how I grade them (of course, this is all personal taste):

HBO: A+
Showtime: A-
CBS: A-
ABC: B+
FOX: B+
USA: B+
NBC: C+

NEI (Not Enough Info):
Cinemax
FX
WB/UPON

I know that my ratings will differ, because I do it based on what I watch, and I dont watch much but:
HBO- A+: for Sopranos, Big Love, Entourage, and Real Time w/ Bill Maher...
NBC- A: for Scrubs, Law and Order (original + SVU), and The Office...
UPN/WB- B: Just strictly for Veronica Mars...

I dont watch anything else except for Alias and thats leaving soon, and American Idol and thats just a guilty pleasure of mine, so everything else gets a C from me.

ABC
ALIAS, Desperate Housewives, Lost

CBS
How I Met Your Mother, Out of Practice, The New Adventures of Old Christine

Fox
Bones, House, The Simpsons, 24, Prison Break, Family Guy, American Dad, King of the Hill

NBC
The Office, Scrubs, My Name is Earl

WB/UPN
Supernatural, Everybody Hates Chris, Twins

FX
The Shield, Thief, 30 Days

HBO
Big Love, Curb Your Enthusiasm, The Sopranos

This seems kinda silly since I'm only grading them by what I watch - and I don't consider anything that I watch total crap so I'd give just about everything above an A.

Overall original programming...
HBO: A+
CBS: B-
ABC: B+
FOX: A-
NBC: C+
FX: A
WB/UPN: B-

Actually, I forgot to add King of Queens and How I met your Mother for CBS, so I guess that upgrades them to a B- for me ...

Yeah, I know but in the case of SFU, it's still in reruns on the original channel (as opposed to other shows off the air in syndication on other stations... ie Friends, Seinfeld, etc). Not sure if Dead Like Me is still rerunning on Showtime, but I decided to include it anyways.

My rankings would be:

HBO - Best of the best!
NBC - Office/Earl hour may have vaulted them to this place alone. Also SNL.
ABC - LOST is the frontrunner here, but the frequent sound probems on their HD feed lower them a bit.
FOX - Loses points for ties to bias news channel, plus points for 24 and The Simpsons
CBS - Letterman sill gets me to this network. Not sure if I watch anything else here.
ESPN/Speed/TNT/NFL Network - Formula One, NBA Playoffs, NFL, Highlights and US Soccer.
INHD1 and 2 - music, movies and such.

That's about all the channels I watch... why do I pay for so many channels again?

As far as quality, HBO is far and away the best but is it really fair to compare a pay channel to a regular channel? If The Sopranos was on CBS, it would probably suck.

HBO: The Sopranos, Entourage, Deadwood, Rome

ABC: America's Funniest Videos (), Lost

USA: Monday Night Raw, Monk

FOX: The Simpsons, Family Guy, 24, American Idol, House

CBS: King of Queens, How I Met Your Mother

NBC: Deal or No Deal (until I get sick of it), Will & Grace, My Name is Earl, Joey (until it's officially dead), Saturday Night Live

UPN: Veronica Mars, Friday Night Smackdown

FX: The Shield, Thief

COM: South Park

SPIKE: Ultimate Fighter

Yeah I know but I figured might as well include those as well. Probably could base it on a different scale or something.

Also, does Cinemax have their own programming?

From our household viewing...

HBO - Deadwood, Sopranos, Entourage, Rome = A

ABC - Lost, Greys Anatomy, Boston Legal, Desperate Housewives, Invasion = B

CBS - How I Met Your Mother, NCIS, The Unit, CSI, Survivor, TAR = A-

NBC - My Name Is Earl, ER, Las Vegas, Scrubs, Apprentice = B- (would be much lower without Earl and Scrubs!)

Fox - 24, Prison Break, Family Guy, Bones = B-

FX - Nip/Tuck, Rescue Me = A (for these two shows, probably a C overall)
