hard to say, the one that stands out it 'shinobi' as its already on 'normal' DVD, so I wonder if theres a 'low price reissue' policy or the prices are genuinely comparable...

The Toshiba rep told me that HD-DVD will not have region coding. I wouldn't take that as gospel just yet, but that's what I was told.

HD-DVD will support region codes, but it will be up to the various companies as to weather or not they use them.

Blue-ray is supposed to only have 3 region codes, although why they are bothering with any, is beyond me.

Comparing cost based on the Japanese price point imo is jumping the gun as far as other
regions are concerned. Though the prices seem the same as standard dvds there may be
other factors that play into this, such as the prices were already high to begin with and
the market will not support further increases. Things like that have room to play in other
regions (like here in the US). So don't count your chickens just yet

i'm not talking about other regions. I'm ONLY talking about these Japanese releases.

Say this title has different features in japan...or for whatever reason i wanted to get it, it wouldn't be any more than if i got the japanese regular dvd import. That's all i'm saying.

I hear that the HD-DVD players in Japan are shipping with a free copy of Resident Evil. Ironically, that's a title Sony distributes in the US but Toshiba distributes in Japan. They must have chosen that deliberately as an F.U. to the competition.
