Favorite decade of tv
From the '50s to now, what is your favorite? I'm not sure but it is either 50s or 60s. I have a real soft spot for the 50s (The Adventures of Robin Hood, I Love Lucy, Alfred Hitchcock Presents), and 60s tv shows (Green Acres, Man from UNCLE, The Avengers, Star Trek). However, the '90s decade does have my top 2 favorite series'. The '70s had too many smarmy detectives/heroes running around.

This decade and the 90s.
Dark Shadows is the best show from the 60s. 80s shows are pretty much awful. I might like a handful of 70s shows. The ones today are a lot better. Alias, Lost, Desperate Housewives, So Weird, Night Stalker, Supernatural, Point Pleasant, etc.

The 1970's. If for no other reason than the Battle of the Network Stars.
For one night a year, the fate of the world (at least for this once impressionable child) rested on the shoulders of team coaches Gabe Kaplan, Robert Conrad and Telly Savallas.
Add to that the majesty of The Love Boat, Fantasy Island, Supertrain, Wonder Woman and Eight is Enough. How could any other decade compare?

Easily the 70's.
TV came into it's own then. 50's too new, 60's not as saturated, 70's saw the entire nation watching the same shows, and multiple TVs in homes. Water cooler talk and such started then i think as well.
DVDs I own
Happy Days
Welcome Back Kotter
Laverne and Shirley
Columbo
Starsky and Hutch
Charlies Angels
Bob Newhart
Partridge Family
GREAT cop shows, funny comedy that took chances for the time, gameshows that reality TV copies to this day.

I'll take now.
Although I have a fondness for the innocence of 50's shows such as The Honeymooners, Leave It To Beaver, Father Knows Best, The Donna Reed Show, Andy of Mayberry etc.,
There are few shows in the past that can match things that are currently being done (or have recently been done) by HBO: The Wire, Rome, Deadwood, The Corner, Six Feet Under, OZ, The Sopranos, Big Love, Band of Brothers, etc.
Also FX with The Shield and Rescue Me.
For pure entertainment that keeps you coming back week after week, network shows such as 24, Lost, and Scrubs are up there too.

DVD Talk Limited Edition
From 1990 until now. With shows like MST3K, The Simpsons, The X-Files, Seinfeld, LOST, Twin Peaks, Family Guy, Futurama, South Park, E.R., the new Battlestar Galactica and so on, this choice was extremely easy to make for me.
Unlike movies and music, television is the one form of media that I think has gotten better since 1990 instead of worse.

I'd love to see the ages of the people that have voted, and see if there's a correlation between what decade people voted for vs. how old they were during that decade. I voted for the 90's, but I'm pretty sure it's because I was coming into adulthood in the mid-90's, and loved that time of my life. My memories of those shows have a direct correlation with memories of how care free my life was at that time.
Looking back at all the shows in the decades that other people voted for really make it a tough decision though. The 70's definitely had some of the greatest sitcoms ever, and the 80's were just brain dead, zone out entertainment (Magnum P.I., Simon & Simon, Wonder Years, Cheers, Moonlighting, etc., etc.).

There are several great series made since 1990 that I put way ahead of a 99% of films. I don't think I could say that about any series from the 50's-80's series, unfortunately.
