I hope this isn't too off-topic. . .
But the review for The Dying Gaul was unexpectedly gushing. Have yet to see it, but some people are writing that Gaul was a bit either too melodramatic or slow-moving to be entertaining. That’s funny. I could say the same for The Insider, which went on for a soul-crushing, body-humbling 2H 38M without any action to speak of (save for Crowe getting a gun out of his lockbox, thinking that there was an intruder lurking outside his home). Nevertheless, I plan on buying the Gaul DVD.
The only way that I have heard of Keane was from Ebert’s thoughtful review. He gave it 3 ½ stars, which is more than a recommend—it seems to be a borderline cheerleading endorsement of the film. And, from the looks of some of the stills and the trailer I’ve found on the ‘Net, it really did look like Kerrigan made this with beer and cigarettes’ money. This DVD is on my wish list as well.
