DVD Talk review of 'Blue Thunder: SE'

I read Don Houston's DVD review of Blue Thunder: SE at http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/read.php?ID=20774 and...
wonder why all conservative ditto heads are always the biggest porn patrons. Is there a connection there Don?

And how would your fellow (christian) conservatives feel a little about your porn habit? It always kills me that porn freaks are always the biggest conservatives. Do you not see the hypocrisy?

Reagan replaced inflation with trillions in deficit spending? He's a freaking hero!

When someone wants to make a fool of themselves, it is often best to just step out of the way and let them speak.

What does any of this have to do with Blue Thunder?

that is exactly what i thought of "Blue Thunder" the first time I saw it, but on subsequent viewings it was less about the porn and more about the politics of a bygone era.

Josh, I'm no more a "dittohead" than I am a slavering fanboy of "Wild Bill Clinton" (though I have found the antics of both Rush and Bill to be equally amusing at times). I'm a fiscal conservative, like many of my peers, and not part of the religious right but if you'd read a few more of my reviews, you'd probably have figured that out already. Why is it that people with an agenda seem so unable to differentiate political affiliations (not all conservatives are part of the religious right, contrary to what you might have heard from Al Franken or Hillary Clinton while worshipping at their feet)?

PS: Thanks for reading a couple of lines of the review.

Don, I think what might have confused Josh1138 is that your review does seem to go a bit out of its way to bring in some pro-Reagan commentary. I thought your political angle was a bit ill-fitting (didn't tie in to the movie so much as the movie seemed an excuse for you to talk about it), with comments like "liberal paranoia" not working as well as I'm sure they were intended to. I wrote it off as perhaps you needing to vent, with the review being as good a place as any. Josh probably looked you up, saw the porn connection, and found something to yell about without thinking things through.

But then, my biggest question when reading was: Of all movies, you pick "Rock & Rule" to mention?!

David, I think the political angle was actually pretty appropriate. The movie was about a helicopter designed to spy on people as well as gun them down (not the criminals of society either but I'm trying to avoid spoilers here), which played into the paranoia of those who claimed the end of humanity was right around the corner due to the way RR was driving us off a cliff in regards to numerous projects/programs/executive orders that fit the "mold" of Orwell's work and the Blue Thunder message. The movie has a lot of ill-stated political messages so I guess my comments fit in with them nicely.

As far as R&R, aside from being my highest rated movie review from that year, I think if you scrape a bit deeper you'll figure out the connection. (Who says a mean old porn reviewer can't be subtle?)

PS: I just love it when a brand new member sees fit to make a cheap attack before going back to using their "real" identity too.

Actually the political talk in the review was interesting to me.

I remember when Blue Thunder came out and all it was to me was a helicopter with guns. I'll probably pick this up since it sounds like I missed a lot (I was very young at the time).

So, thanks josh1138. I wouldn't have even seen the review if you hadn't posted.

Good lordy, considering I haven't seen either since dinosaurs first walked the earth, I'll be scraping a while. (Which means, of course, it's time to revisit both.)

Especially if Roy Scheider is involved.

Side thought: are you sure you haven't reviewed anything else with the name "Blue Thunder" in it? Sounds very porn-y to me.

It does have that kind of a ring to it, doesn't it? That could be your porn name if you'd like me to register it for you...
