Veronica Mars back to Tuesdays...

New Orbit for 'Veronica Mars'

Show moves to Tuesdays, away from 'Idol'

LOS ANGELES -- UPN is sending "Veronica Mars" back to her old home for the remainder of the season, which may be both good and bad news for the series.

Starting next week, "Veronica" will air at 9 p.m. ET Tuesdays -- the same timeslot it held last season. Repeats are scheduled to air on Wednesdays for at least the next two weeks; plans for after that "will be announced shortly," the network says.

With the move, "Veronica Mars" will lose its strong lead-in, "America's Next Top Model," which helped boost the critically loved high-school noir's ratings in the fall. "Veronica's" ratings have suffered in recent airings, however, partly due to the absence of "Top Model" and partly due to the return of "American Idol." For the season, it's averaging about 2.4 million viewers per week, just about even with its numbers this time last year.

Moving the show to Tuesdays does get it out of "Idol's" path, as well as that of ABC's "Lost" and CBS' "Criminal Minds." It will, however, have to go up against FOX's "House" and CBS' emerging hit "The Unit."

What the change means for "Veronica's" chances to make the jump to The CW next season remains to be seen. UPN President Dawn Ostroff, who will run the new network, is a fan of the show. Still, its marginal ratings make a pickup for The CW, which will feature programs from both UPN and The WB, less than certain.

Not sure if this is good news or bad news. I dont watch much on Tuesdays except Scrubs so it's fine by me.

I'm OK with that move (from a schedule standpoint). I'm about finished with The Unit anyway.

Doesn't sound so good for it's CW future if it doesn't have that ratings boost from Model though.

Ugh that makes Tuesday even more crowded for me. I'm far more concerned about a ratings drop though...

Argh. Now it conflicts with Scrubs.

Check your schedule carefully. On my TiVo, it is listed that Tuesday the 28th's episode is listed as a repeat of yesterday's episode and Wednesday the 29th is a new episode

BTW people without multiple DVRs... it still replays on Saturday here, so you can always record it then.

I guess this could be spinned as being good. If they air originals after the Top Model repeat, either the ratings for VM will build or drop off less than it would from an original. Then, they could point to "better" retention as a reason to renew the show.

Ah, because shuffling the schedule around is exactly what a need-to-watch-every-episode-to-know-what's-going-on show needs!

I think they are simply planning way ahead here. The rumors are that if picked up, the show will follow Gilmore Girls next season on the CW. Perhaps they are getting people accustomed to watching it Tuesday at 9/8c, even if the shows are on different networks right now.

How about Thursdays?? There's NOTHING on Thursdays anymore except for Survivor and that's only 8-9. I can't think of anything on 9-10 there except Everwood and that's been off the air like forever.

Personally, I don't have any conflict on Tuesday night so this move works for me.

As I indicated previously, until we get an official word from the new network CW, this show is not a sure thing to be back next year because of its ratings.

Everwood is coming back to Monday night, starting next week.

Yay!

I see this as nothing but bad. Now that I'm done with Sons & Daughters, Scrubs will get shunted from the DVR to videotape.

This suggests to me that they want to test the show in what would be its timeslot next year (admittedly without its GG lead in, though). If the numbers aren't better, I fear this may be the end. I told people in the CW thread that Veronica wasn't out of the water. I'm sad that I'm right, but it's never a good sign when a show is pulled for sweeps.

Hopefully there will be a 3rd season. This is the only show that I have never missed an episode.

Yeah, aside from The Office, My Name Is Earl and Supernatural, there is NOTHING good on at 9pm on Thursdays.

I'm glad about the move. Wednesdays at 9 has Lost and the AI results show.

I don't know. I think, Veronica Mars, being a critical darling and a smartly written show, might be exactly one of the kinds of shows with name recognition that the CW will want to market.

Sure, I'm nervous, but I have a feeling they'll want to give this show a 3rd season and if still doesn't attract decent numbers, only then give it serious consideration for being cancelled.

The article from the link in the first post has actually been updated:
Starting April 11, "Veronica" will air at 9 p.m. ET Tuesdays
I'm glad they're moving it away from AI and Lost, it was getting absolutely slaughtered. I don't see how they could think for a second it could compete with both of those shows.

That's is exactly what the Ausiello Report at tvguide.com said.

Veronica Mars' Big Move!
CW execs aren't waiting until the UPN-WB marriage becomes official to test out a Gilmore Girls/Veronica Mars pairing. UPN announced yesterday that beginning April 11, Mars will move to Tuesdays at 9 pm — immediately following Gilmore Girls on WB. No one is officially dubbing this a test — after all, the shows are still on two different networks — but as one industry insider tells me, "It looks as though they're attempting to build a Gilmore/VM night before the merger happens." Sounds like a good idea to me.

I thought that I read Kristin on E! said it is 98% coming back, but I can't find it now.

I would be surprised if it didn't come back. Let's hope it does.

Kristin said from a "reliable source" that the show is 96% coming back. But having dealt with her for 4 years, I'm taking it with a huge grain of salt.
