so the 360 has finally been hacked
note: this does not tell HOW this is just posted for NEWS purposes only.
"Ok a while ago we brought to you news about how the Xbox 360 firmware routines were still intact.. Well The Specialist has followed this up and it looks like months of hard work have come to an end, with the Xbox 360 firmware being well and truly hacked, the security details posted a few days ago are said to be proof as well as a video, this hack will not be made available publicly it seems.

Months of hard work have come to an end. The 360 FW security details were posted a few days ago already, so why not make it Official It's been done.
Respect to all the people on this board who made it possible with their brilliant contributions:
Anita999, Geremia, Nayr, Bluecop, Interestedhacker, MacDennis, Phantasm, Marvin, Tiros, SpenzerX, Team Modfreakz, Fuzzylogic, Takires, loser, jasper, SMO, Groepaz, Zobyone, Jumba, Amadeus, Tser, DjHuevo, oz_paulb, DaveX, darkfly, evestu, Robinsod, Dark_Neo, Gael360, Seventhson, probutus.
Just for fun, here's a little video: rapidshare.de. And no, the team decided not to release a hacked FW. The security details are proof itself. The team advocates hacking, not piracy.
News Source: XboxHacker
We'll try to have a mirror up of the video up as soon as possible.
Arakon has added that the hack does NOT circumvent region protection only 1:1 copies of games of the same region will work.
*UPDATE* DOWNLOAD VIDEO: You can view the 'proof video' which is kindly hosted by us here at MaxConsole by Clicking Here.
The video shows a backup copy of Project Gotham racing 3 running on the Xbox 360, there are periods in the video where you think they could've done the old switcharoo but to me it looks very real."

these people sure have a lot of free time on their hands! really genius the different ways they try to tackle the thing.
thing is though, this "hack" while it does allow the playing of a copied disc looks like a dead end. first of all, standard burners cant faithfully copy a 360 disc. secondly this exploit requires someone to remove a control chip from their machine, use some kind of hardware reader to get a security code, then you need something else to flash in a new bios with said security code (working on a PC version to do the flashing, but you still need to get the code off the control chip somehow). then solder the whole thing back in. not exactly something AverageJoeXboxGamer is gonna be doing anytime soon.
im 100% against piracy, but I do find the cat and mouse process interesting anyways.

Anyway, this "hack" is purely for piracy. It has no legitimate uses whatsoever (unless you legitimately play "backups"). It does not permit running any "homebrew" applications (unsigned code), which was the best part of the mod scene for the original Xbox. It does not defeat region coding either. It is also a very involved hack. In other words, this is not the hack that many people are waiting for...

Well it's not something that joesixpack is going to do. It's just the first step. I'm sure the XBOX had useless "hacks" like this when people first started tearing it apart as well.
