Hello,

I bought a Sony DVP NS50P (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00080FPRU/103-3611422-8636622?v=glance&n=172282) about four months ago. It worked fine up until this week, after we moved. We moved our own belongings and I wrapped the DVD player in bubble wrap. After I plugged everything in and sat down to watch a movie there was a buzzing noise coming from the stereo speakers. I checked all the connections and everything was fine. I disconnected the RCA cables from the stereo and hooked the player directly up to the RCA connections of the TV. The buzzing continued. I took out the red cable and the buzzing stopped. So it seems to be only one channel of audio that is causing the problem. I then hooked up my Gamecube to the same RCA inputs and there was no buzzing. So next I went to Best Buy to buy a S-Video cable to see if that would alleviate the issue. No luck - the buzzing continued. It gets worse when bright colors are on the screen.

The only other time I have heard a buzzing like this was with an old record player, which required a ground wire attached to one of the screws. Is it possible to ground a DVD player in a similar way or does my problem lie elsewhere?

Thanks!

So next I went to Best Buy to buy a S-Video cable to see if that would alleviate the issue.

If it's the red RCA cable, that is one of the audio channels (right or left, depending on how you have them connected). Changing your from composite video (yellow) to S-video isn't going to affect your audio channels.

Do you have another means to hookup your audio (toslink or digital RCA)? If so, use that. If not, you could try upgrading your audio cables (R/W RCA) and see what happens.
