Mystery Science Theater Vol. 9 News

Per Satellite News:

VOL. 9 DETAILS
Our friends at Rhino Home Video have given us the list of episodes to be included in the Mystery Science Theater 3000 Collection: Volume 9 DVD set. They are... wait for it....

104- WOMEN OF THE PREHISTORIC PLANET
207- WILD REBELS
613- THE SINISTER URGE (with short: KEEPING CLEAN AND NEAT)
812- THE INCREDIBLY STRANGE CREATURES WHO STOPPED LIVING AND BECAME MIXED-UP ZOMBIES

As a bonus for "Women of the Prehistoric Planet," Rhino has taped a short intro to the episode with Irene Tsu, who played Linda in the movie. There may also be an intro to "The Sinister Urge" with Conrad Brooks, who played Connie, but that's still in the works.

The projected release date for the set is May 16. Check back with us in the not-too-distant future for a sneak peek of the cover art.

I'm not familiar with any of those, but I like getting a mix of Joel and Mike episodes.

Nooo if they're gonna decide to have a season 1 episode it should've been Robot Holocaust.

Could do without the season one episode but the rest are great. Love "Keeping Clean and Neat."

Why hasn't Rhino released the public domain movies like Giant Gila Monster?

They're Wild Rebels,
Crunchy, fruity rebels.
Pouring milk on them is like shooting off a gun.

Wild Rebels,
Punchy, crunchy rebels,
Don't bust your teeth on something sweet and hard!

They won't get soft or squishy,
Better eat 'em or your a sissy,
Just pound 'em down, you stupid clown, they're wild!

I haven't seen any of these, but I applaud the variety of genres. Every era of the show is covered in this release. I look forward to seeing The Sinister Urge.

DDD now has it up for pre-order at 40% off...

http://www.deepdiscountdvd.com/redir...fier=RHI971612

It would be an incredible deal if they still have it at that price during the sale-that-shall-not-be-named.

But this Season 1 ep is the original source of the "Hi-Keeba!" line - one of the best known riffs from the show!

I agree, though, that they need to release more of the Public Domain movie episodes (although the last few boxed sets featured a number of PD titles, such as Teenagers From Outer Space and Attack of the Giant Leeches).

Why can't they start doing incomplete season sets? I know every movie will never get released due to licensing issues (most of which could be solved with a little capital investment on Rhino's part) but it would be nice if they would release as much as they can. At least we would get all the shorts.

BTW, has anyone read this article on what if MST3K came back (...but not by the same people)? It's pretty funny (and a bit scary to think about, particularly the Uwe Boll paragraph on what he would do to MST3K):

Every time they announce a new set I hope and pray "Riding with Death" will be included. I've seen at least 75 percent of the 200-ish MST3K episodes, and that one is my favorite, I think.

You realize that is a spoof article, and not actually Uwe Boll writing that, right?

I don't think Sandy Frank would release his movies for "a little capital investment." I doubt that those will be released while he's still alive no matter how much Rhino ponies up.

I haven't purchased any MST3K collections (I got The Movie DVD off of eBay a few years back, still one of my most treasured) so I was wondering what the difference is between the Collections and the Essentials? Are any of the Essentials episodes contained in the Collections, have plans to be in the future, or are they mutually exclusive?

The Collections all have four discs [some have three movies plus a "shorts" disc], the one volume (to date) of The Essentials was two (though you could order it from a website and get a free "shorts" disc otherwise unavailable).

The Essentials were 'Manos: The Hands of Fate' (which is also available as a standalone) and "Santa Claus Conquers the Martians' (which is otherwise unavailable).

Episodes in the Collections are not available seperately or anything like that, though a few of the early releases had episodes which had been released on VHS.

Do the box sets contain uncut versions of these bad movies, without the comedy bits and commentary? Ed Wood's The Sinister Urge isn't available on DVD in any form. I will check this out sometime. MST3K was a great series!

Nope. The only extras are brief introductions on a couple of the movies -- Irene Tsu with a 2.5 minute intro on Women of the Prehistoric Planet and three minutes with Conrad Brooks on The Sinister Urge.
