Fred Goss (Significant Others) stars in this unique hybrid comedy series that offers a mix of improvisational and scripted humor in an unadulterated look at marriage, raising children and living in close proximity to an extended family.

Oh yes. Although the show kind of worries me.

Does ABC realize how boring my unscripted family is?

Saw a lot of commercials during the Super Bowl, so I will check it out. That always makes me wonder if it stinks and they are trying to convince me that it doesn't though.

When the best only thing they can say about it is that it's executive produced by Lorne Michaels, that's not a good sign. Dee Wallace (Stone) is a nice lady, though, so for her sake I hope it doesn't suck.

If you can not get AD, make an AD ripoff.

Same here.

I'd have to set a few VCRs.

It's a comedy on ABC. That's all I need to pass on it.

I think you meant precedence, unless that was a pun about Commander In Chief

Add in the premier of The Unit and 9pm is jammed tonight.
Any info on a repeat of this show or The Unit coming up soon?

Actually, just from judging the commercials and the fact that it is unscripted, it looks more like a Curb Your Enthusiasm rip-off with everyone trying to be Larry David.

I'm going with Scrubs/The Unit on my DVR (no House issues for me because I don't watch it) and S&D on VHS (yes, my VCR is still hooked up).

Okay, this show is awful.

And what is with the "This show is partially improvised" warning? Would Americans think there was something wrong with the show if there wasn't that warning in place?

I had the second episode on for 2 minutes, got annoyed and decided to go with the Scrubs rerun instead.

I kept watching hoping it would get funnier. I like the little girl with glasses and braces. She's the funniest part of the show. Reminds me of a young Parker Posey.

I guess Im the only one who liked it. Ill admit I watch little if any sitcom/drama whatevers (Scrubs, 24 etc...) so my standards may be low. Problem is that during basketball or baseball season (not to mention Monday Night Football) those sporting events take precedence over anything else so I cant catch a full season of any show. On second thought, I have caught all of Everybody Hates Chris because they replay it often so Tivo grabs it for me. Im gonna stick with this show and see how it goes. I was entertained and laughed a few times out loud which I dont do alot for sitcoms.

I would like to apologize to the fine people of DVDTalk for opening this thread and bringing attention to this travesty.

Maybe if I delete the thread we can all pretend it didn't happen. We might not be able to make eye contact for a while, but eventually, everything will be cool again.

May 20 doesn't land on a sunday until 2007. Did this REALLY get pushed up?

I've got it waiting on the DVR. Haven't seen it yet, but I was getting a definite Arrested Development vibe from it, based on the previews.

I apologize in advance for adding to the thread, but I feel I have to write about this travesty now that I sank 2 episodes worth of time into it.

I think what must have happened is as follows:

1) Lorne sees AD
2) Lorne finds so-called comedy writers who have never seen AD
3) Lorne locks these writers away so they cannot see AD
4) Lorne explains that he wants a show like AD and that AD is all about a family's awkward interaction with one another

They absolutely nailed the awkwardness part of this show. In fact, it's more awkward than any episode of AD. What is missing is the comedy. Maybe they figured they could just write a series of awkward moments and the actors could improv their way into comedy. They obviously couldn't.

I weep for ABC that they could not smell the stank of this show far enough in advance to cancel it without airing an episode.

Some people believe that none of the characters on AD are likeable (same with Newsradio back in the day), but they're wrong. It's no wonder that people who believe that try to make characters that aren't likeable when they try to rip off these shows (see Suddenly Susan, Veronica's Closet, any other Newsradio-era NBC workplace comedy for that lesson for that show).
