Need recommendation about Lord of The Rings DVD

With soooo many editions out there I'm very confused. I need recommendation from you guys. If I want the whole trilogy (fellowship, two towers, and return), extended edition, which DVDs / boxset should I buy? What's the good and the bad of this edition / boxset you recommend? It doesn't have to be the most complete extras, because if you want complete extras, I believe you have to buy 'em all available editions!

I'd purchase this set:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000654ZK0/

It's all three Extended Editions packaged together.

Yes, the extended editon set is the way to go. It has a much more developed storyline, especially the first two films.

I'd agree. It does flesh out the characters and storyline to a great degree.

You might want to stop by a local GameStop or other locations and pick up the theatrical versions as well. You can probably do that for *at least* under $15 now for the three.

One thing I've found with owning only the Extended Editions, I don't put them in as often as I would if they were the theatrical version. Spending 3+ hrs watching the first of a 3 part movie is a bit much to do on a whim. I usually watch these movies when I'm ready to spend all day doing it.

The extended versions are the better films, though.

Agreed with those saying get the EEs, but I'd recommend getting the theatrical cuts as well. If only because you can now find them new for under ten bucks at most places... but also because they manage to be completely different experiences.

Yeah. Though the Extended Editions are absolutely incredible, they're so long that I find myself more likely to stick in the theatrical editions. If you are anything more than just a casual fan, however, I urge you to buy both the theatrical and extended editions as they are completely different experiences. Good luck!
