Possibly NYPD Blue?
If for nothing else than that final season being absolutely great; many of the Andy and Jr. eps prior to the final season were some of the best as well....

I'd say Buffy peaked precisely at the 100th episode.
As for peaking after the 100th episode... I'll have to go on a limb and say South Park has produced episodes after the 100th that are, in the very least, right on par with the best episodes before the 100th.

I loved Buffy seasons 5 & 6. One of the best episodes aired directly after OMWF, Tabula Rasa. I liked Season 6 the second time around a lot better (it wasn't flowing as well as Angel season 4, which was so fast paced that it made Buffy season 6 seem slow in comparison) without commercials and long breaks. It flowed much better that way.
I liked the darkness of season 6 a lot though. It was a very depressing season and the ending (actually the whole two part finale) was incredible beyond words. Although, I wouldn't say Buffy peaked around that time. It probably peaked around three, IMO, but season 5 was awesome (right up there with the best. The finale is among the greatest episodes of anything I've ever seen as well. So, I can see how someone could see it peaked during season 5.).
Season 6 was a great dark pit of despair with life being the big bad of the season. Some people just didn't "get it" or it was too much of a change for them. I kind of liked that they had the guts to make season 6 such a dark and depressing season. I would've preferred they didn't overuse the magic = drugs metaphor, but even though Willow was addicted to the power I can see why they went that route; not a lot of people can relate to being addicted to power. .
If I had to rank the seasons it'd probably be something like:
1: Season 3
2: Season 5
3: Season 2
4: Season 6
5: Season 4
6: Season 7
7: Season 1
I could probably switch seasons 4 & 7 and be ok with it.

Stargate SG-1. Now don't get me wrong, the show started stinking horribly the season after the 100th episode, S6. But once they got Michael Shanks back, halfway through S7 things got good again. S8 was amazing, tying up storylines that had developed over several years. And quite frankly, I find S9 to have been the best season yet. Ben Browder owns RDA, Claudia Black has been hillarious and the Ori have been a better villain than the Goa'uld.
