From the choices given, The Empire Strikes Back. I've seen too much support of T1 over T2 (me included) and GFII isn't as perfect as GFI (the Pacino parts were sub-par, it's not even from the book) while Empire isn't just the best Star Wars movie, it's what happens when you give a saturday matinee film ground-breaking ILM effects, a character-driven director and a Ray Bradbury-level scifi/fantasy noted writer, it destroys all boundaries.

This was a tough call, because I love Empire Strikes Back, but the Back to the Future series has always been my favorite trilogy! My vote is really for Back to the Future II and III together, as they are really just one script expanded into two films. But even if it were just II, it just went into such a different type of film than you would expect. While some might say that the focus on 1955 was retread, I feel as if it was a genius device to not only create some technically marvelous special effects sequences (involving Marty working around the other version of himself), but also a way to have all of the great characters we loved from that era back into the fray. It's a dark, yet increasingly fun adventure, that to me heightens what was done in the first film and more than keeps up with it!

Aliens

No other movie has given me heart palpatations when leaving a film and brought my back to see it again.

The greatest sequel of all:

In truth though, either ALIENS or Empire.

i choose "The Godfather" Part II ,but you can't discount the one that ruled them all at the Oscars... "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King". Don't forget a sequel doesn't necessarily mean the 2nd in a franchise.

Lethal Weapon 2 needs to be on the list.

This was the second movie to pop up in my mind. But I quickly remembered that it's not really a sequel.

BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN is always on evry critics list.
And SUPERMAN 2 should be on there along with THE ROAD WARRIOR.

Empire hands down. It's a superior film than Star Wars which itself is an all-time great movie.

The Godfather Part II is a great flick, but it's not as good as The Godfather. Plus the Havana scenes are boring and I never really cared for the Vito flashbacks.

Aliens

Just FYI - Entertainment Weekly is calling Silence of the Lambs a sequel in their 'Best Sequels" article. (Due to Manhunter)

Godfather II, even though I think Godfather I is better. It was hard for me to pick between this and Empire Strikes Back which is my favorite Star Wars movie.

Silence of the Lambs gets my vote. I mean, it's so good that most people don't even realize it's a sequel. With Deuce Bigalow European Gigolo coming in a close second of course.

The Empire Strikes Back, it is the only sequel in the history of movies that is better than the original. Now I still love T-2, Godfather II, and Superman II, they are all great sequels, but I just don't think they are as great as the originals.

The Empire Strikes Back takes the characters in a whole new direction from the Original Star Wars. It does not recycle any worlds from the original, it does not recycle any plots from the original, and it doesn't rely on bigger is better to sell the movie, the last hour is actually more intimate than the original. And it also has a great twist and a cliff hanger ending which was never done at that time. Although the Original Star Wars is a classic too, these are the only two Star Wars movies that are really great, the other four are just sequels and prequels that have their good and bad moments.

Actually, I think ROTJ is better then the first.

The Godfather, Part II is a masterpiece.

ESB edged out the victory over Spidey2 and X2. If Nolan can somehow top Batman Begins, then my Empire vote will be null and void.

Actually, I think ROTJ is better then the first.

 to that too. I respect your choice, i think Return of the Jedi is very underrated, it's not supposed to be the darkest in the trilogy, leaps and bounds ahead of the prequels, and who exactly here gives a crap about Ewoks until the internet told them to be? I for one applaud that they are there becuase too long we've seen battlefields seem to be only owned by two conflicting sides, in this there's a realization like reality that their warzone is someone else's home and these "creatures" totally oblivious to the Empire do help in turning the tides of conflict just like in history.

Not technically a sequel I suppose... But I'm going with Dawn of the Dead.

Since that's not an option and there's entirely too many votes here for ESB and Aliens, I'll go with The Godfather, Part II.

Going by what was on the poll, out of what I've seen I'd have to say X2 was the biggest improvement (not that the first one was bad) when compared to the others.

I went for Aliens, but Road Warrior was good, along with ESB.

EDIT: saw ST:WOK and also agree there as well, best Star Trek movie IMO.

I voted for The Godfather Part II. I was also tempted to vote for Aliens, which is a rather remarkable sequel in that it was an entirely different type of film than the original (more of an action film than straight horror) and was still very effective.

However, I think any discussion of great sequels needs to include at least a mention of The Color of Money.

Of those listed on the poll, Batman Returns.

A few of my other favorites, which I don't think have been mentioned yet:

Addams Family Values
Damien: Omen II
A Very Brady Sequel

I was going to vote for T2 until I saw Aliens on the poll. Way better movie, both in effects and more importantly, storywise than T2.
