Black Books - Are any other BritComs nearly as good?

I love Black Books so much and three seasons is not nearly enough!

Is there anything else even remotely as good?

I have seen:
The Office: Love it
Spaced - Love it
League of Gentlemen - It's OK
Men Behaving Badly - Decent
Cold Feet - OK
Many older shows like Are You Being Served, Fawlty Towers, Red Dwarf, and Black Adder.

But nothing comes CLOSE to being as funny as Black Books. Anyone have any recommendations?

Black Books is tops! Fawlty Towers as well

Some good comedies that are good but don't live up to Black Books are

Ab Fab
Little Britian
Only fools and horses
One foot in the grave
Father Ted

Since you mentioned liking 'The Office', definitely check out 'Extras'.

Last of the Summer Wine. Funny show. The longest running situation comedy of all time. Ran from 1973 to present.

Coupling. Seasons one - three are a comedy goldmine. Season four, no.

If you liked Black Books, especially the first and for my money, best season, you owe it to yourself to watch Father Ted. It's one of the funniest shows I've ever watched. A few more worth checking out....15 Storeys High, Ideal with Johnny Vegas as a small time hash dealer and Julia Davis in Nighty Night which is just about the darkest comedy I've ever watched. Nighty Night makes something like Curb Your Enthusiasm look like The Brady Bunch. Of the ones I mentioned Father Ted and Nighty Night are available in R1 while the other two are R2 for the time being.

I agree D. Zero, Father Ted was and always will be one of the funniest shows ever Genius, Dermot Morgan passed away too soon.
One Foot In The Grave is good too. I liked Little Britain but now (2nd season) its' become tiresome catchphrase comedy IMO with the odd shock thrown in.
Sorry for hijacking the thread but how come I can never find a good price for the Father Ted S1-3 set? Its' always £40 (!) in UK online stores

I'm also a big Black Books fan. Definitely see the IT Crowd. It just finished its first series on BBC (only 6 eps, I hate how they do that). If you haven't seen the Young Ones, see that ASAP.

Also, seeing the shows you like, you MUST have already seen the movie Shaun of the Dead. If not, you will absolutely love it!

Thanks for the recommendations everyone!

Yes, I have seen, and love, Shaun of the Dead.

I have seen Father Ted and like it quite a bit. The complete Series is available as an enrollment selection in the Columbia House TV Club if anyone is interested.

I am region free on DVD so I will definitely be looking for some of these suggested shows.

Cheers!

The Britas Empire is a very weird britcom. I doubt it's being shown currently. Maybe on local PBS affilliates.

Early Doors (written by and starring Craig Cash from the Royle Family).
And definitely Green Wing - the funniest thing for years for me.

I absolutely floved Yes, Minister. Maybe it's because I worship Sir Humphrey. Also, it's portrayal of politics seemed to be spot on.

Seconded. Funniest series of series ever. I recommend watching in order:

1) Knowing Me, Knowing You
2) Knowing Me, Knowing Yule (Christmas Special)
3) I'm Alan Partridge Series 1
4) I'm Alan Partridge Series 2

The Partridge character appears even earlier on The Day Today and such, but all you really need to know is in the 4 titles above. Gets progressively funnier each series. And Gary Numan's "Music For Chameleons" plays a vital role in the last series.
