Can anyone speculate or inform me as to which place would be the best to pick these up (between Wal-Mart, CC, BB, or Target)? I see that Best Buy has $6 off if you buy two, which is probably the best deal, but if any place had them for $15 it would beat that. Thanks.

I haven't seen anything better than that either. Miyazaki DVDs never seem to be discounted much, but you may try checking your local Walmart. They sometimes randomly discount things on release day.

FYE has a $7 rebate on Howl's Moving Castle, making it $12.99 before tax.

Thanks - is the FYE rebate an instore thing? Also, is that a mail-in or is taken at the register? I've seen a lot of bad reports on here about FYE mail-ins.

They're normally mail in but I haven't done one since last summer-ish when they stopped their $10 rebates. I've done about a dozen of them last year with no problems.

This is slightly off-topic, but does anyone know of any rebates from Disney with this wave of Ghibli dvds? Last year, The Cat Returns, Porco Rosso, and Nausicaa came with a form offering a free dvd (All from previous Ghibli waves, i believe) if you purchased the three of them in the given calendar window. Possibly there is something similar this year to make me feel better about the lack of a great sale on these titles.. Can't wait to own them!

As far as the Best Buy deal, if you bought all 3 would you only get $6 off or would you get $12? Also, if it comes with a rebate for a free movie as in previous waves that seems like it would be a good deal. Besides the 3 new releases I still need Spirited Away, Pom Poko and My Neighbors the Yamadas.

Looks like the BB deal only takes off $6 total. I went ahead and added all three titles to my cart, and subtracted $3 from Howl's, and $3 from Totoro and left Whisper at $19.99.

I'm going to buy Howl's and Totoro from BB with the $6 off, and I've already ordered Whisper from Amazon for $19.96 (along with another item to reach the $25, free shipping threshhold). That'll come to $56.54, including state tax, for the three. Not any kind of deal to write home about, but a little better than just going to the store and plopping my credit card down.

That deal would actually be better if you bought Howl's Moving Castle from Amazon and got the other two at Best Buy. You'd save a dollar.

But the deal at BB is only if you buy Howl's and one other title. If you buy the other two, the deal won't take effect.

It's cheaper to get Howl and Totoro from Amazon unless you're going to pick them up at the store, and even then it's a difference of maybe $2 total.

Can you use the BB Disney Gift card coupons in combination with the $6 off deal?
I remember using a BB Disney coupon when there was a similar deal for the last batch of Miyazaki DVD's.

The coupons expired on 12/31/05. I still see them in stores though, so I'm gonna ask if they can make an exception since they're still selling GC's with dead coupons on them.

BB deal works for me. Whisper is not my fave and I already have a HK version. Maybe if Disney went to a modicum of effort in making these, like subbing the extras from the Japanese version instead of just stripping them out. Beh.

Just got back from Best Buy.. They didn't even have these on the shelf yet, but there was a cart out. There were probably 30+ Howl's, 10 Totoros, and 2 Whispers (that I saw anyways).
Good news though about the Disney coupon that expired at the end of the year. I asked a manager if they would accept it since they were still selling the GC's in the store, and she said that since it's a BB coupon, they always honor them. So I guess the expiration is not really true, at least not at my local store.
So, my total was $43.97 + tax for the three, which is not bad at all.
19.99 Howl's Moving Castle
19.99 My Neighbor Totoro
19.99 Whisper of the Heart
- 6.00 for buying Howl's and another Miyazaki
-10.00 for the Disney coupon (buy 3 Disney titles, get $10 off)
------
43.97, or 14.66 each

clerk at best buy didn't let me use the disney $10 coupon since it has "can't be combined with any other offer or promotion" stated on it. i guess it depends on who rings you up.
also, my wal-mart had only howl's moving castle, and it was $19.96.

19.99 Howl's Moving Castle - $5 off
19.99 My Neighbor Totoro - $5 off

19.99 Lady and the Tramp (I'll return it tomorrow)

If you can stack coupons, you could instead get Howl's as your 4th rather than Lady and the Tramp and get another $3 off. Also they probably take $3.75 off each, rather than $5 off the first 3. If anyone has a receipt using the $6 off, is it $3 off each or $6 off both?
19.99 Howl's Moving Castle - $3.75 off - $3 off
19.99 My Neighbor Totoro - $3.75 off - $3 off
19.99 Whisper of the Heart - $3.75 off - $3 off
19.99 Howl's Moving Castle (return) -$3.75 - $3 off
You could theoretically get all 3 for $39.72 + tax.
At the very best, if they clump the discounts, you would keep the $6.75 off the 4th Howl's for a total of $32.97 + tax.
Please let us know what they do when you return Lady and the Tramp :)

Fuckin' Best Buy, they sold out of the TOTORO's early on, and I couldn't get there before 4:30pm. I only went because I had a $10 coupon burning a hole in my pocket, otherwise I would have just went with the Amazon.com deal (which I'm doing now).

Make sure you guys check the "New Releases" shelves... The anime/disney shelves only had a few DVDs left... but when I checked the New Releases shelves, there were a lot more of each title.
BTW: The Disney coupon for me did not work... Cashier said it was expired and would not scan it.

That was lucky. They also said $17.99 by me but rang up $19.99 and then subtracted off the $6. I didn't think there was any way I could argue both discounts so I left with what I expected.
I on the other hand couldn't find any Totoro or Whisper by the new releases even though there was plenty of space. Both were in Anime.

Same thing happened to me. I saw the 17.99 on the shelf (with the note that it takes 6 bucks off if you buy 2) and thought, great deal! But they rang up at 19.99. I suppose I can go in to customer service, argue that the 17.99 price cannot be with the six dollars off since 19.99-3=16.99, not 17.99, but I'm not sure the 2 bucks is worth the time and energy.
Also, I'm amazed at how few of both Totoro and Whisper of the Heart they stocked. The first BB I went to had none, and when we checked the stock, there were none in the store, none coming in on the next shipment, and none on order. They checked stock at a second BB, so I went over there, but even after looking through the back and getting some great BB customer service, they could only find Whisper of the Heart. At the last moment, as I was paying, the BB guy that was helping me rushed up and gave me a Totoro he had finally found. This was the best customer service I've ever had at a BB... he took the time to look on the shelf, open boxes in the back, and look through the cart, and even after I left to go pay he kept looking and tracked me down. I wonder if they have some kind of customer feedback form.

It was the same for me but I made him change the price to 17.99 and than toke off the 6 bucks because that's how they are advertising it on the self but he did it without complaining. :)

I did the Amazon deal. They dropped the price a bit on Totoro so I ended up spending a little less than $33 for both shipped. I'll have to get Whispers down the road. I still need the DVDs from last wave as well, but hate paying over $20 for them.
