Lady and the Tramp: Glitch or Player Incompatibility?
Over the past 2 days I have brought home and attempted to play 2 different copies of Lady and the Tramp. In both cases, the disc never stops attempting to load. I never even get to the first menu.
This is happening on a Toshiba SD2108 player, which plays my other 500+ DVDs fine (and I reverified this immediately after the first L&TT disc wouldn't play)
Anyone else experiencing similar problems?
I have already submitted a problem report to Disney, but am not very confident that anything will come from THAT....

Please make a point of identifying the player you have that works/doesn't work if you post so I can update the table below...

No, I played the first disc without a problem and the second one loads ok, also. The hub was broken on the first disc and the second disc was hard to remove but other than that, no problem. I'm using a JVC player.

Yes. It works fine on my Polariod Portable DVD player, which is only a year old (e.g., newer implementation of DVD player technology).
I'm suspicious that the new Disney "fastplay" feature may make the DVD incompatible with older DVD Players....

The only difference with "fastplay" is that the commands authored into the disc are taking it to the feature and not the menus.
It sounds like your Toshiba could be getting stuck when it checks your initial player settings, when it determines wether to play widescreen or pan & scan.
Give Disney a call on their 1-800 number, they should be able to give you some answer, or at least get the ball rolling if they have to fix a problem.

I already spoke with Disney. They didn't disagree with me that the fastplay feature might be the cause....as it's the FIRST thing that the player has to read according to the tech I discussed this with.
Be that as it may, it's just as likely to be yet another issue with the Toshiba firmware for my player, since my unit is considerably dated now. I honestly hope it is firmware issues, as that will limit the number of people that will be annoyed by this problem.
...but it's really annoying that I can play 500+ other discs with no problem.
The only other one I have issues with is ANOTHER Disney title: The Emperor's New Groove

Or it could be a firmware thing or bad disc. But I'd first be suspecious of an older player.

Disney uses Ripguard on all their discs now, so I'd blame that.

I had that model Toshiba player until I replaced it last year. It was notorious for having problems playing some Disney DVDs. The one I remember in particular was The Emperor's New Groove. At the time I researched it and, as I recall, the conclusion was that there were firmware compatibility problems with the way Disney was authoring some of its DVDs.
