Is that the one where Jo Beth Williams is topless -plus 38 Special sang the title track.

It's currently airing on one of the Starz cable channels (Starz Drama - I think). I recorded it off of there. It has a pretty extensive soundtrack, music rights may be one issue.

I have it on laserdisc. The transfer is really old and not too good. It's from back when fox distributed mgm/ua movies. I am hoping for a widescreen dvd soon. i really liked the movie and I can't understand why it hasn't been released. There was a newer vhs release form mgm with updated cover. I prefer the old one with just the apple.

Weird movie.
I seem to recall that they tried to market it as a high school comedy, like Porky's or Fast Times at Ridgemont High, when it was really more of a drama with humor like M*A*S*H. But it was bogged down with too many silly elements -- eg Richard Mulligan's character -- and came off as uneven. (Makes me wonder if, during production, the guys with the money wanted to turn it into the next Fast Times and started throwing too much lowbrow junk into the mix.)
I remember renting this back in the early days of VHS rentals hoping for something a little raunchier, and at least I got JoBeth Williams stripping naked and walking through the halls.

Yeah, I think it was supposed to be a drama about the crisis of the public education system but got sidetracked when various powers-that-be decided to interfere. It should have been allowed to be a straight drama, like Lean on Me or Over the Edge.

Our 8th Grade graduation theme was Joe Cocker's "Edge of a Dream" and our class watched this movie in class. Everyone was aware of the JoBeth Williams scene, including our teacher, so we had to fast-forward through it.
A gal in our class suggested Motley Crue's "Home Sweet Home" so we got to listen to that song in class too. Our teacher nixed that one as our theme and opted for "Edge of a Dream."
I think one of the last scenes of this movie had Nick Nolte looking back at JoBeth Williams in a hallway of kids and stating to her, "Because I'm a teacher!" correct?
